JIMI HENDRIX Jimi Hendrix (November 27, 1942, Seattle, Washington – September 18, 1970, London, England) was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter. Hendrix is considered one of the greatest and most influential guitarists in rock music history.[1] After initial success in England, he achieved worldwide fame following his 1967 performance at the Monterey Pop Festival. Later, Hendrix headlined the iconic 1969 Woodstock Festival before his death in 1970, at the age of 27.A self-taught guitarist, Hendrix played a Fender Stratocaster guitar turned upside down ("left-handed") and restrung to suit him. Hendrix pioneered the technique of guitar feedback with overdriven amplifiers, incorporating into his music what was previously an undesirable sound. He built upon the innovations and influences of blues stylists such as B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Albert King, and T-Bone Walker, and derived style from rhythm and blues and soul guitarists Curtis Mayfield, Steve Cropper, and Cornell Dupree, as well as from traditional jazz. Part of Hendrix's flamboyant stage persona may have been inspired by rock pioneer Little Richard, with whom he toured as part of Richard's back-up band, "The Upsetters". from interview to interview. Police and ambulance reports reveal that not only was Hendrix dead when they arrived on the scene, but he had been dead for some time, the apartment's front door was wide open, and the apartment itself empty. Following a libel case brought in 1996 by Hendrix's long-term British girlfriend Kathy Etchingham, Monika Dannemann allegedly took her own life. Some reports indicated that the paramedics who escorted Jimi out of the apartment did not support his head and that he was still alive. According to this version of events, he choked on his own vomit and died during the trip to the hospital, because his head and his neck were not supported.[9]
The Grateful Dead was an American rock band formed in 1965 in San Francisco, California.[1]The band was known for its unique and eclectic songwriting style—which fused elements of rock, Calypso, folk music, bluegrass, blues, country, jazz, psychedelia, and gospel—and for live performances of long musical improvisation.[1][2] "Their music," Lenny Kaye wrote, "touches on ground that most other groups don't even know exists."[3]The Grateful Dead's fans, some of whom followed the band from concert to concert for years, were known as Deadheads and were renowned for their dedication to the band's music.[1][2] Many followers referred to the band simply as The Dead.Their musical influences varied widely with input from the psychedelic rock of the era, combined with blues, jazz, rock and roll, and bluegrass.[1][2] These various influences were distilled into a diverse and psychedelic whole that made the Grateful Dead "the pioneering Godfathers of the jam band world."[4]Common themes in their lyrics include typical American motifs, like those of love and loss, life and death, gambling and murder, beauty and horror, chaos and order, God and other religious themes, travelling and the road, etc. Less frequent ideas include the environment and other issues from the world of politics.
** JANIS JOPLIN**
Janis Lyn Joplin (19th January, 1943 – 4 October 1970) was an American blues-influenced rock singer and occasional songwriter with a distinctive voice. Joplin performed on four albums recorded between 1966 and 1970 -- two as the lead singer of San Francisco's Big Brother and The Holding Company, and two released as a solo artist. Joplin was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005.She was ranked #41 on VH1's The 100 Greatest Artists of Rock 'n Roll in 1998, the third highest ranking for a female (only behind Aretha Franklin and Joni Mitchell) on the list. In 1999, she was ranked #3 on VH1's The 100 Greatest Women in Rock and Roll (behind Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner). In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Joplin #46 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time ***JEFFERSON AIRPLANE*** ..
Jefferson Airplane was an American rock band from San Francisco, a pioneer of the LSD-influenced psychedelic rock (or "acid rock") movement. The band's name is "Jefferson Airplane", not the Jefferson Airplane, but its fans often refer to it simply as "the Airplane".The Airplane was the 'flagship' act for the burgeoning psychedelic music scene that developed in San Francisco in the mid-1960s. They were the first San Francisco group to perform at a dance concert -- the seminal 'happening' at the Longshoremen's Hall in October 1965 -- they were the first to sign a contract with a major record label, the first to appear on national television, the first to score hit records and the first to tour to the US East Coast and Europe. .. **SWEETWATER*** In the late 60’s the USA Psychedelic/Proto Prog movement was full of great artists ahead of their time but the band that pioneered the fusion of Rock, Classical, Folk and Jazz was a modest group of kids from Los Angeles called SWEETWATER.They didn’t just limited to hiring a Symphony Orchestra to enhance the music, instead they were one of the first USA bands to include Cello, flute and Congas to the usual rock instruments, having a lineup of eight official members (plus guests), something pretty unusual for 1968.It’s unclear if they joined in 1967 or 1968, but due to the excellent voice of Nansi Nevins plus the absolutely innovative and eclectic blend of influences in their music they were immediately recruited by Warner Reprise and released their self titled debut album **CREEDENCE CLEAR WATER REVIVEL** Creedence Clearwater Revival commonly referred to by their initials CCR or simply Creedence, was an American rock band, fronted by John Fogerty. Though hailing from the Bay Area of California, the group was influenced by the swamp blues genre that came out of south Louisiana in the late 1950s and early to mid-1960s. CCR cultivated a Louisiana connection through its choice of song and album titles, such as "Born on the Bayou," Bayou Country, and Mardi Gras, as well as through the southern "good ol' boy" image projected by its members. Several of their songs also protest against the Vietnam War, such as "Who'll Stop the Rain", "Run Through the Jungle", "Wrote a Song for Everyone" and most notably "Fortunate Son **THE WHO** The Who are an English rock band that first formed in 1964 and grew to be considered one of the greatest[1] and most influential[2] bands of all time. They have been described, moreover, as "possibly the greatest live band ever."[3] The primary lineup consisted of Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle and Keith Moon. The Who rose to fame in the United Kingdom with a series of top ten hit singles (including the celebrated "My Generation") and top five albums, beginning in 1965 with "I Can't Explain". They first hit the top ten in the USA in 1967 with "I Can See For Miles". The 1969 release of Tommy was the first in a series of top five albums for the group in the USA.Keith Moon died in 1978, after which the band released two more studio albums, Face Dances and It's Hard, with drummer Kenney Jones, before officially disbanding in 1983. They reformed on several occasions during the 1980s and 1990s to perform at special events such as Live Aid and for tours such as the tour celebrating their 25th anniversary and the 20th anniversary of Tommy. The band focused on live performance during this period. In 2000, the three surviving members began to discuss the possibility of recording an album of new material, but Entwistle died in 2002, which delayed recording. The two remaining members, Townshend and Daltrey, continue to perform as The Who. Their most recent studio album, Endless Wire, was released in 2006.
