I'm pleased to tell you the final incarnation of Those Woodstock Girls is here. I've been anticipating this since those inspirations, muses in June 2007 that motivated me to create this page. It's a great feeling to see things come together and to be making the time to launch.
I realized if I was going to move forward I had to free myself from using the 1969 festival as a launching point. It's liberating and it's scary to do something like this on your own especially when you don't know how people are going to react but truth be told, the 69 festival found it's inspiration from people living in and around Woodstock when promoters got the idea for the festival after seeing gatherings of people camping out listening to live music.
For an artist living in a town that lent it's name to a famous festival that was an historic venue of the right to assemble expressing the worthy causes and music of a generation can't hurt. Truth be told, the festival was not the 60's movement. The festival was another venue for the ideals of a generation and music to be expressed.
Woodstock New York and the surrounding area has been attracting artists, musicians, poets, writers, activists, healers, nature lovers, campers and hikers for about a 100 years. Many people who come to Woodstock are here for the party. Many have a social and political conscience and express there views through there art. Many want to make a difference.
One day a friend asked me why I live in Woodstock. I replied it's those Woodstock girls! One thing led to another and I realized the causes everybody is so passionate about weren't moving forward fast enough not because the causes weren't just, because leadership was using the causes to promote themselves, there brand for commercial gain. It made sense to me to look for leadership in motherhood, where hearts are pure, minds are free from commercialism and the need to provide a safe place for children to grow in is a priority. However I had a dilemma. If the nature of motherhood as I see it is pure and free from commercialism, how would this help me get the messages of worthy causes out there. The answer was simple. I was living in an artist colony. Seek the help of women in the arts. A perfect combination of expression with feminine ideals to stand behind worthy causes. I was in the right place to move my work forward.
