About Me

"MAK play with sensitivity, energy and creativity that belies their age, but most importantly they just love playing” – Kirsty Cotter, RSAMD Juniors Instructor
Mhairi Hawksworth (15, Kilwinning) – Fiddle
Amy Corfield (16, Paisley) – Fiddle
Keegan Gordon (15, Irvine) – Piano
MAK met at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) YouthWorks programme. They play an exciting mix of traditional and new Scottish fiddle tunes with a distinctive classical and jazz influenced piano accompaniment. All members of the band have played in many prestigious festivals in Scotland too including Celtic Connections, Scots Fiddle Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival and recently were semi-finalists in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Despite being only 15, Mhairi has already toured Mallorca, Sweden and Slovenia twice. She is from a musical family and has been brought up surrounded by Scottish music.
Keegan Gordon is a classically trained pianist who discovered traditional music through Mhairi. He won the RSAMD Juniors prize for Scottish music in February 2007. This was particularly impressive as amazingly Keegan was the youngest in the competition. He has only been playing piano since August 2004 and is already grade seven.
Amy Corfield has been playing fiddle since a young age and was regularly playing in concerts with the Bearsden Young Fiddlers by the time she was eight. Now the leader of the group, she also does many solo performances and has made two albums, kindly donating the profits to charity.
