HOUNDOG HARRISON BAND

About Me

Houndog Harrison Band is a medley of Americana, Rock and Roll, Blues, Bluegrass and Rockabilly cooked for twenty-some years, combined with the modern influence of electronic composer Michael Barnhart and cooked to perfection with the latest digital technology.

Houndog Harrison's Music & CD Description:

Original tunes by Ronny “Houndog” Richards with a couple traditional Irish tunes interwoven within the tapestry of Americana, Irish, Blues and Rockabilly influence.

Our first CD "Indecision" was recorded in 1994 and has had limited distribution, however it was very well received by those that were lucky enough to attend one of our concerts. The track, "The Boat Song" from the "Indecision" CD was chosen to be the final musical track for the video documentary "River Voices" which is about the 1937 flood of the Ohio River in the Portsmouth Ohio area.

Our secound CD "American Dreams" has received greater distribution through places like Amazon.com as well as CD Baby.com. Some of "American Dreams" listener’s have written reviews that have read:

*****Talent, June 27, 2004 AlexMBJ (Atlanta, GA)

Talent is the word that comes to mind when listening to these guys. Go figure, but I hear influences of Van Morrison, Lou Reed, Jr Walker, and even Commander Cody-- all rockabillied together and sounding goooooood. I really, really like the title track, American Dreams, along with Plain Jane, Mr. Rogers, Kiss and Tell, I-70, and that neat rendition of Devra's Delight. It's alllll goooood, and I think this album would appeal to a wide audience across the globe.

*****Awesome tunes, November 11, 2000 David Steinecker (Bellevue, WA United States)

Once every 50 years you find a band that can move you from the very soul of your existence and make you feel glad that you're alive. I couldn't take it out of the player for a week when I first got it and it still sits at the top of the stack 2 months later. A must have for any Bluegrass, Irish, Country, or Southern Rock collection. My hat's off to Houndog Harrison!

*****A Great Collection, October 5, 2000 A music fan

Houndog Harrison Band's most recent CD, American Dreams, is steeped in authentic rockabilly stylings and subtle bluegrass undertones. What repeatedly draws my attention to the new CD are the acoustic accents, which add color and originality, and the unique instrumentation. "Devra's Delight", although a traditional Irish reel, is creatively performed utilizing a mandolin and alto sax and "I-70" is a perfect example of the band's talent for highlighting melodic divergence. "Why Would I", probably the strongest song musically, demonstrates the artists' individual and diverse talents. Ronny Richard's original lyrics encourage me to reflect on my Southern upbringing as his ballads take me back to people and places long locked up in memory. The journey is introspective, reminiscent and all together reflective of the CD's title and cover- American Dreams.
