In the summer of 1965 at the age of 13 and inspired by the great British beat boom of the sixties, English born singer/songwriter Kim Cheshire put together his first band in high school, played his first professional show in 1971 and has been performing, singing, writing, recording, and producing, right up to the present day.
2002 saw the release of his first solo album, Rocking Horse to Mars through Sydney independent label Laughing Outlaw.
From that inauspicious debut in 1965 Kim worked initially through the sixties/early seventies as a writer/singer for British band Nimbus recording, and touring throughout Britain, Europe and North Africa, also backing visiting US R&B acts and producing local independent bands.
Due to the changing musical climate of late 70s, he left England for San Francisco and finally in 1980 came to Australia in search of new opportunities.
Since settling in Australia, where he now happily resides with his wife, actress Anna Hruby and daughter Polly on the outskirts of Sydney, Kim has been involved in a variety of projects including, musical director for a feature movie Going Down (Hayden Keenan's sex, drugs and rock and roll cult classic), co-producing a successful theatre show "Ha Ha Ha Performing Humans" (opening Sydney's Belvoir Street Theatre) and a partnership with Air Supply and Divinyls founder Jeremy Paul in a rock management company Concept Mechanics.
Since 1986, after becoming singer/songwriter for Sydney's inner-city alternative country favourites The Danglin' Brothers, supporting everyone from Jimmy Barnes to Chad Morgan, Guy Clarke to Wall of Voodoo (one golden guitar nomination. Two Mo Award nominations) and fronting successful award winning country band The Wheel ( 2 Golden Guitars. 1 Mo award. 2 Aria nominations) Kim had become firmly entrenched in the Australian country music industry.
Having been a successful singer/songwriter himself and genuine lover of great country music, during the last few years Kim’s opinions and experience regarding song choices have become much sought after, and through his “Ocean Road Music†publishing company he continues to assist many upcoming Australian country artists by finding the songs that can help to establish them as popular recording artists.
In 2002 at fifty years old, with a wealth of experience and an unstoppable passion for music, Kim re-defined himself once again for the new millennium with his most recent recording venture Rocking Horse to Mars. Here, he is joined by his friends and musical collaborators (some of Australia's finest musicians, singers, songwriters, etc) to capture a timeless blend of musical vignettes, portraits of the trials and tribulations of ordinary people who sometimes find themselves confronted by the extraordinary circumstances of their lives. Kim Cheshire continues to pursue his own unique musical vision.
