Frank Griz describes this mild mannered but aggressive individual, Frank, as in Frank White from the movie King of New York, returns to take his throne and to get rich or die in the process. This signifies the importance Griz places on Loyalty and having dedicated people in his cypha. Griz comes from grizzly bear, a unique specie of animal known for being extremely powerful and smart plus it is the only animal that stands on 2 feet when provoked to attack.His relationship with hip-hop started back in 1995, when he was dared to rap by a friend in his freshmen year at Wilson magnet high school in Rochester New York. Armed with a hot 16 bars written to that now famous lost boyz song, “Jeeps, Lex Coupes, Beamers and Benzâ€, he began his foray into the art of beats and rhymes. Frank continued to play around with rhyming but never took it too seriously. His first recording was done on a home tape recorder which he got as a kid as was the norm for many kids in the hood back then. His first real recording was done in about 1997 with Naciamaj a burgeoning Jamaican rap group that consisted of Paso, Killa Looks, OGG, Nation, Kalfani, Khabs and Frank Griz who was going by the name Jewl The Messiah. The song was called “How Long Shall the Wicked Reign†and it was recorded in Kingston, Now the Mecca of Jamaican Hip-Hop. Subsequent recordings came first in the form of a remix of the Mario Wynans song “I don’t want to knowâ€, with an R&B artist by the name of Theresa from Rochester New York; this was done for the World Immortal Stone Love’s Nikko Bam Bam. And tons of other remixes and freestyle dub-plates for DJ Zhen, Chiney Hype and DJ QFrank’s influences range from Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane and Run DMC to Nas, AZ, Bootcamp Clique Raekwon Ghostface Killah of Wu-Tang Clan, with his strongest influence coming from Queens NY rapper Noreaga on the first CNN album “The War Reportâ€. This was the music that made Frank and so many others of his generation fall in love with hip hop, from watching videos on BET and Yo MTV Raps nigga and seeing videos from all these artists and more. Those are the memories that Frank Griz holds dearest, little snap shots of how he grew up and what made him the man he is today. His only message is that whatever style of hip- hop you do it has to remain hip hop, not to be little those who express themselves by making party oriented music but Frank feels that keeping that essence of hip hop alive in his music is his most important task.Currently Frank Griz is in the process of completing a soon to be released Mixtape entitled 9-11.
