SMOOTH JAZZ CLASSICS has great songs on it. Tony Guerrero and I co-produced this CD and picked some of the very best pre-Smooth Jazz songs from the very beginning of Pop Instrumental Jazz (and a few that you would find on Smooth Jazz Radio today, but where considered AC or Pop back in the day.)

In a word, Greg Vail sounds a little confused! People seem to need neat little boxes for art so they can feel like they understand it and then feel safe enough to like it. Greg dances around many boxes in the Music World covering styles that are Smooth Jazz, Pop/Rock, R&B, Traditional Jazz, Rock Fusion, Gospel, Christian Music, Funk, Experimental, Christmas Music and more.
Greg Vail has 5 solo CD releases on Greg Vail Music in a few different styles and genres. Who Greg sounds like is Greg. Others have compared him to Kirk Whalum, Eric Mariethal, Gerald Albright, Bonny James, David Sanborn or even Kenny G. But then sometimes people are surprised to hear a cool new track, and then find out it is Greg, because it doesn’t fit in there neat little box of what Greg Vail sounds like.
Bottom line - You take a listen and tell me!
I have CD Samples here you can listen to. Each Sample has 5-6 pieces of that CD to give you an idea what that overall CD sounds like. You might need to stop the My Space player, page top, right.

NEW VIDEO from KSBR BASH a few Years ago - But NEW ONLINE! Tony Guerrero hands of to Greg Vail on a great tune by Max Bennett at the KSBR Birthday Bash.
This one comes from Saddleback Church - No Solo in this one but got lots of cool fill space and blowing a bit over the back side. My buddy Blake Aaron sounds great on it as does Scott Reed!!
I Love the song - AMAZING GRACE!! THis version comes from a great DVD that I got to do with Gospel Singer Charles Billingsley and an all star band including Paul Jackson Jr, Melvin Davis, Julio Figaroa and more... This is a very festive version of Amazing Grace that makes me smile each time I hear it! Nice Bass Solo too...
One more Greg Vail Video from the KSBR BASH. I used to work with Steve Oliver when he was just moving into Smooth Jazz and commuting from the Bay area years ago. Steve was even the Guitar player in my band for a bit and traveled with the band to Guam on one of our tours. Steve Oliver’s composition and Guitar with Greg Vail on Soprano Sax, live at the Birthday BASH.
Found some video on You Tube from the Winter NAMM SHOW. The Yamaha Groove Nights Show was awesome and here are a few of the songs posted. This first video was with Dave Weckl featured on a great Rufus Song - Tell Me Something Good. Alto Sax Solo by Greg Vail.
This next video is from the KSBR Bash - a Smooth Jazz Radio Station in Mission Viejo California - Annual Fund Raiser Concert. It features Greg Vail on Bari Sax (first solo). Why Bari you ask? With so many guys on stage holding sop/alto/tenor, Bari seemed like the right choice. The song - Watermelon Man.
Another Yamaha Groove Nights Clip - Just fun loving Horn Section stuff on a great Stevie Wonder song. You’ll know this one. I’m the 4th guy over in the section in all black and this is a pretty bad visual quality. When the DVD comes out, we’ll try and get good clean clips to share!
NAMM 2008 Yamaha Groove Nights Show Pictures are finally online. Pics by Julio Figueroa. Horn Section from Left to Right - Reggie Young - Trombone, Tom Marino - Trumpet, Jon Papenbrook - Trumpet, Greg Vail - Alto and Tenor Saxophones, Albert Wing - Tenor and Baritone Saxophones.
