Jesse’s Musical Journey
Just turning 15 years old, and already Jesse has many accomplishments to his name. Guitar Player magazine, September 2007 issue, features Jesse in the Editor Boy’s Big Eight highlighting "Meltdown," as "it portends Vick’s impending guitar heroism." Jesse was also featured by the Fort Worth Star Telegram in an article entitled, "Classic Rock by Young Gun."
Jesse’s most recent accomplishments include winning 1st place in the March 2008 Lone Starz Rising competition sponsored by the Texas Music Project. The band is scheduled to compete and perform live at the Taste of Addison on May 11, 2008. Also, the band headlined at the Pure Talent Showcase at Poor David’s Pub in Dallas, TX on February 9th, 2008.
In April 2007, Jesse was invited to be a part of a documentary hosted by the Smithsonian Channel on the History of the Electric Guitar. Jesse was personally invited by Big Fish Entertainment to a film shoot at the Dallas International Guitar Show in April 2007 in which he was one of the very few young guitarists selected for this event. Paul Reed Smith, of PRS Guitars, along with G. E. Smith (from Saturday Night Live Band) were among the featured hosts of the documentary. This documentary was finally completed in Jan 2008, and Jesse is truly honored to have been a part of such an inspiring project. With a copy of the full-length DVD recording in his possession, Jesse will always have lots of fun entertaining his family and friends.
Competitive performances have yielded several top prizes, including the Guitar Battle at a local musician’s club playing a powerful instrumental song, "Mr. Scary," by George Lynch. Soon after that he won the Fort Worth Teen Idol contest sponsored by the Fort Worth Public Library.
Originally from Germany, Jesse’s interest in music was evident from the early age of 9. After a short introduction to classical music, and after much commitment to practicing on his own, Jesse discovered his inner genius. He quickly realized how natural he was at soloing. Jesse quite rapidly expanded his playing abilities, and it was just a matter of time before he discovered the power of rock music.
As much as Jesse enjoys playing rock covers, he is even more passionate about his own original material. Jesse and his Dad have co-written over 20 songs, ranging from the classic rock melodies to the smooth ballads, each highlighting Jesse’s amazing musical range and soloing abilities. The time had come to bring their music full circle and it was in the Spring of 2007 that the Jesse Vick Band (JVB) was formed.
The JVB features Jesse as Lead Guitarist and Lead Band member; Lou (also known as Dad) on Vocals and Rhythm Guitar; Jacob on Bass and Vocals, and Tristan Lester on Drums. The band is hard at work building a strong fan base, and they are currently pursuing venue performances in the DFW area.
As a side hobby, Jesse’s Dad is busy at work creating an extensive line of "VICK" miniature guitars. While at the Dallas International Guitar Show, Jesse met one-on-one with his Rock Idol, George Lynch. He presented George with a hand-carved, miniature guitar. It was a close replica of George’s "Bones" guitar. Jesse, with the help of his Dad, would like to someday present one specially for Buckethead, Jackson Browne, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Yngwie Malmsteen and Jason Becker, some of Jesse’s biggest guitar influences.
While Dallas Fort Worth will always be Jesse’s homebase, he looks forward to bringing his music to the rest of the nation, and then to the rest of the world, especially, Germany!
