About Me

'The Greatest Gift' is a message, promoting altruism, peace and goodwill. I hope you like what I have to say, and can forward me on to some of your friends. If you have any feedback or questions, or if you have a message of your own you'd like me to pass on, I'd love to hear from you, and make sure you subscribe to my blog for the occasional pearl of wisdom. The more we have the more we want: In developed nations around the world, depression has been on a steady incline since World War II. Why? It’s simple – the more we have, the more we want. As economies have boomed, people have become increasingly materialistic, and commercialism now rules. People are measured by what they have instead of who they are, and we label people 'stingy' if they choose to spend little on themselves, even if they give generously to those who have nothing. We have everything we need, so we begin to accumulate everything we want. When we have everything we want…well, then we want more. Meanwhile, there are billions of people across the globe who are struggling, day in, day out, just to survive. ‘The Greatest Gift’ is not a charity, and it is not in any way politically motivated. It is just a message, plain and simple - please just think about what I have to say. If you like the idea of promoting altruism and goodwill, then please forward this message on to your friends, talk about ways you can help change the world, and start fighting for a better future.

My Interests

Giving up one small, insignificant gift could make a huge difference to the world we live in... We live in a very materialistic world:
Has it ever occurred to you that a lot of the gifts you give or receive on special occasions either end up in the bin or being re-gifted; and the few gifts that are treasured - well, most of us can afford those things ourselves if we really want them. And surely I'm not the only one who has gotten sick of trying to buy presents for the person who already has everything. Why should we be judged by the dollar value of the gifts we buy But we can do something about it. Are you ready to take a stand? Next time your birthday swings around, send out a memo along the lines of "to the generous, thoughtful people who are planning on buying me a gift for my birthday, please don't. Instead, please give the money you would have spent on me to charity, that is the greatest gift you can give me." And in the lead up to Christmas, make an agreement with your friends and family to pool the 'gift money' and give it all to your favourite charity. And please, please, say no to the 'Hallmark' greeting cards - the most treasured cards have always been, and always will be, the handmade ones! Of course, no one is expecting you to suddenly say no to every gift that comes your way...but honestly, couldn't you do with a few less toasters, bottle openers and ice buckets?!? The money from just one gift could make a real difference...of course, you could just donate some money for the hell of it!!! Couldn't you survive with one less cup of coffee a week? Check my 'friends space' or the banners below if you're stuck for ideas. If you can't afford to donate money right now, no worries - there's plenty you can do that won't cost anything, such as...

I'd like to meet:

Music:

Anything that make me think or feel - preferably both

Movies:

Any ideas/suggestions about inspirational films (apart from those covered under 'books')?

Books:

Heroes:

Volunteers!; people who work for organisations like World Vision, Unicef, WWF, Wildlife Warriors, Greenpeace and all the other not-for-profit organisations that are trying to make a difference in our world; Nelson Mandella, Steve Irwin and many others who disregarded material possessions in lieu of something better. Please give generously to the charities that mean the most to you. In case you're wondering, my choice is human rights...
