Giving up one small, insignificant gift could make a huge difference to the world we live in... We live in a very materialistic world:
Has it ever occurred to you that a lot of the gifts you give or receive on special occasions either end up in the bin or being re-gifted; and the few gifts that are treasured - well, most of us can afford those things ourselves if we really want them. And surely I'm not the only one who has gotten sick of trying to buy presents for the person who already has everything. Why should we be judged by the dollar value of the gifts we buy But we can do something about it. Are you ready to take a stand? Next time your birthday swings around, send out a memo along the lines of "to the generous, thoughtful people who are planning on buying me a gift for my birthday, please don't. Instead, please give the money you would have spent on me to charity, that is the greatest gift you can give me." And in the lead up to Christmas, make an agreement with your friends and family to pool the 'gift money' and give it all to your favourite charity. And please, please, say no to the 'Hallmark' greeting cards - the most treasured cards have always been, and always will be, the handmade ones!
Of course, no one is expecting you to suddenly say no to every gift that comes your way...but honestly, couldn't you do with a few less toasters, bottle openers and ice buckets?!? The money from just one gift could make a real difference...of course, you could just donate some money for the hell of it!!! Couldn't you survive with one less cup of coffee a week? Check my 'friends space' or the banners below if you're stuck for ideas. If you can't afford to donate money right now, no worries - there's plenty you can do that won't cost anything, such as...

Anyone willing to help me get my message out there, and to start giving up just a little of their time or money to a good cause; anyone who can take the time to send me a message with feedback - whether it be positive or negative, or just a query.
Anything that make me think or feel - preferably both
Any ideas/suggestions about inspirational films (apart from those covered under 'books')?
Volunteers!; people who work for organisations like World Vision, Unicef, WWF, Wildlife Warriors, Greenpeace and all the other not-for-profit organisations that are trying to make a difference in our world; Nelson Mandella, Steve Irwin and many others who disregarded material possessions in lieu of something better. Please give generously to the charities that mean the most to you. In case you're wondering, my choice is human rights...
