Hi Everyone, My name is Laura Power, Born and raised in the small quaint town Lindsay, 2 hours north of the big city Toronto, Ontario Canada!
I live with my mom and step dad, My dad and his wife live in Sudbury. I am the oldest of 8 siblings! I have 3 sisters named Jill, Braelyn, and Rayah. And I have 4 brothers named Ben, Jayden, Sam and Dalton.
I've been a pretty lucky kid growing up, I don't think of myself from a broken family, I have the best of both worlds, I have 4 awesome supportive parents. It's the best!
Growing up, as short as my life has been so far is pretty darn good. I have been told that I had a cry that seemed like a melody from the first moment. My mom always said I would do something musical in my life. I totally love singing. I have been taught by some wonderful vocal teachers including Arlene Gray, Donny Anderson, Barry Haggarty and Tara Lyn Hart.
Using my bed as a stage by the age of four, I would perform for my family and friends and anyone that would listen!
My first favorite country artists were the “ Wilkinson's†though I have been most inspired by Billy Gilman, Martina McBride, and country legend Patsy Cline.
I am a member of the Kawartha Treble Troupe. Arlene Gray is our conductor, there are many talented young girls and boys part of our group between the ages of 10 and 18.
My very first recording experience was in Peterborough at Haggarty Sound Studio, there I recorded the cover songs Jesus Take The Wheel, Probably Wouldn't Be This Way, Broken Wing, Independence Day, and O' Canada at the request of my school at that time wanting it for morning announcements. I was very pleased also to get the chance to record my very first original song with Barry, it is called “Book of Memories†written by R.Solski and Robert Moody right here in Canada.
I went on to meet Rita and Don Anderson and their amazing musical son's Donny and Jody. Their guidance and support has been appreciated and I have had many fun times with them. I got to meet and perform with the Blackfly Band through the Anderson's as well.
From there I have had many rewarding chances and experiences. The start of a wonderful music career was placed in the palm of my hands, through my Myspace website, I met and was contacted by my current producer Charlie Craig from EMI Studios. During the summer of 2007, I travelled twice to Nashville Tennessee, I selectively and very carefully chose my original music, written by a team of Nashville EMI writer's, also the choice of one very special song “Words†written by John Foster. I went on to start recording my very first debut album with Charlie, my engineer Chris Latham, and my Nashville band members too!
I have met so many other people through my Myspace, I have the greatest pleasure of knowing and being so close with Steve Miller, I am a family member to his founded group called “Dark Horse Music and Artist Promotionâ€
Others I have met and adore are Tammy Allen and her little guy! And Allen Crowe.
I have been blessed with the friendship of The Nightride Family also, Bruce Hodges is incredible, he hosts his evening show online and is becoming quite popular all over the world, I have had the chance once to do an interview with him personally via telephone.
Most recent and upcoming are of so much importance, I have had the best time of my life in this last few months, I perform regularily with a wonderful band from the Peterbough area called Just Plain Country, each member is gentle, sweet and are just amazing musicians! Also recently and in the past year, I have had the honour of performing with The Bare Back Riders Band out of Kitchener/Waterloo. Enjoying every minute I get to spend with those guys, I even got to finally meet up with some old friends from the Fergus area I lived for the better part of two years back in 2003. Kristin Lee and her family! Alex, her son and I had been best friends, it was an unforgettable moment for me to finally see him again.
Currently, I have a wonderful band manager here in Canada, we have been practicing long and hard with lots more to go, Don Elfner, Steve McCullough, John GoGo, Paul Whitaker, and Patrick Fitzsimmons are so incredible and supportive of my music career, giving every effort to learn and play my music.
Don Elfner has made sure every musician is a well seasoned player, bursting with knowledge and many years experience.
I am looking forward to the 30th of May, I am more than sure that the concert is going to be a huge success!
Many requests for summer 2008 have been made and I look forward to meeting new people and see all the smiling faces. Keep watching my websites to keep up to date with all my performances and new information, I keep blogs regularily and will soon be having a new photo shoot done.
Without all my family, friends and fans none of my dreams would be able to come true. My goal is to make everyone happy through my music.
Thank you for believing in me!!!
