DJ MAFIA PRINCESS

PRIN 1. TURNTABLIST/BATTLE DJ, RAPPER/WRITER, PRODUCER, MODEL/ Princess of Turntable Soul, aka DJ Mafia Princess, is a native East Coast Turntablist/Battle DJ, Rapper/Writer, Producer of Hip-Hop, Soul, and "Infused" music. A multi-talented artist and alluring young woman- she is simultaneously enigmatic and down-to-earth. Her original style, magnetism and undying loyalty to the "real hip-hoppers" formulates her personality that goes well beyond the "average" dj and artist. Battling at the 2007 DMC Battle for USA Supremacy in NYC, her passion for turntablism/djing embraces the culture and challenge of dj battles. Her mixtape compilations, especially "RELAX AND TAKE NOTES", "1 ILL" and "SOUL", have continued to spark much interest in her underground hip-hop audiences and dj enthusiasts with her beat-juggling, scratching, and mixing techniques- makin "hot mixtapes". From a teenager, her goal was to be a scratch dj/turntablist. Her love for underground hip-hop and djing began from the days when she pumped mixtapes of the 90's turntablists non-stop. A few to mention: DJ Juice, Mista Sinister, The Slaughterhouse Crew, and DJ Premier. Moreover, watching battle djs perform, such as: Dimitris George, Roc Raida, DJ Swamp, Lazy K, Rob Swift, DJ Slice, Aladdin, and DJ Noize inspired her to step up and work hard to buy her own tables. From the very first time Mafia Princess ever spectated a dj competition, the reverberation of the scratches flowed all the way from the speakers through to the blood that pumped through her veins. She desired to make exciting mixtapes, produce dope beats, and set her own mark. Stepping into a male-dominated field never deterred her from making music. The Princess made friends with many other aspiring djs, producers and emcees along the way. She commanded respect with her knowledge of the music, work ethic and serious demeanor and dedication. Hip-Hop served as a positive escape from the Princess' problems and emotions- there was a powerful connection between her life and the music. She desired to take it to the next level. Her goal was to contribute to the hip-hop culture- a culture which has provided a positive outlet and voice for those who have something to contribute and say. Despite her efforts, it was not such an easy road for the Mafia Princess. She persevered through envious criticism (of both sexes), lack of finances and resources, and the struggle for survival. The Princess started rapping/writing a few years later. She started to express her life experiences on paper, and channel her thoughts and emotions into lyrics of inspiration. Named by one of her rapping mentors "Mafia Princess"- she discovered this was to be her dj name, the name she tried for years to find and settle down with. The connotation of "Mafia" later evolved into a higher meaning- "mafia" of the soul. Her material and messages vary from being conscious to speaking of the Lord, to high energy and exciting. Her goal is to extend hope, uplift and be edgy. She continues to work hard and be humble while still learning from the greats- even in the midst of a game that's full of false pretense and egocentricity. "It was about the struggle. I do this for the love. . ." MUSIC: Turntablism and Hip-Hop are the Princess of Turntable Soul's ultimate loves of musical artforms. The artists that inspired her to get her tables in the first place were some of the pioneer djs of Hip-Hop, the founders that had the guts to blaze trails for all of the hip-hop/scratch djs, and turntablists: Grandwizzard Theodore (Inventor of the scratch, and the needle-drop), Grandmaster Flash, DST, and DJ Kool Herc.
