A DJ, Producer and Crowd Pleaser with easily over half of his existence in experience on the wheels.
But who really is Dimitris George?
An ambidextrous born Gemini with more focus on music than formal education, a passion that eventually led him to rock stages and DJ battles with various other influential DJs. The Washington DC area born and bred DJ has an international audience and has rocked parties in the UK, France, Germany, Switzerland and Japan. His mixtapes have sold in New York, London, Amsterdam and Berlin. With a jetset flair, Dimitris’ mixes invokes excitement, are eclectic, and his original music gets in your head and makes you want to dance. That is exactly where he wants you, on the floor! “I thrive on getting a crowd amped – That’s my high. There’s nothing like a party eating out of the palm of your hand. That’s an incredible thrill,†confirms Dimitris.
At seven years of age, Dimitris was classically trained on the violin and
bass, but it couldn’t keep his attention. Holding the violin on his forearm
like a guitar, he stood in the rear of the class and couldn’t be less
interested. His teacher, Mrs Rawls told him that he’d been her “best ear
I've ever taughtâ€, but she could never reach him. He found his musical
love later on when he discovered deejaying in high school.
While attending Virginia Commonwealth University along with his new
found freedom he explored deejaying more seriously and spent his
money on records...
His skills grew from local DJ battles, where he placed and won many of
the prestigious competitions such as the DMC, ITF, Loud Records
Battle, Pure Love Records Battle and the University of Maryland Hip
Hop Conference Battle. DJ Craze and Roc Raida were a few of the other
DJs that Dimitris graced the stage alongside. His first hit came from DJ
Skribble, who approached him at a college party. The offer to open up
for Skribble at local New York parties was not an opportunity that was
going to knock often, but Dimitris chose to stay in the family business
and politely declined. It was a decision that made him get focused.
The next five years was spent working, and not on the music. His come
back meant doing whatever it took – “I took parties for fifty bucks, and
killed every party. I did it like I was making five thousandâ€. That
tenacity and passion for keeping a crowd moving led him to a solid
following and opened up doors for him to travel, and share his music
around the world. The inspirations he found away from home brought
him to produce his own music.
“It sounds like most people’s ipods,†Dimitris admits, “Its eclectic, electronic and urbanâ€. His personal iPod includes artists from A Tribe Called Quest to Armand Van Helden and includes everyone from Daft Punk, Jay-Z, Prince and the White Stripes. That explains most of the varied sounds and beats that hit your chest when you press play. “Music is my medium, and if I felt it couldn’t make the hair on the back of your neck stand up, then I wouldn’t do it.â€
It’s been a long way from Mrs Rawls class.
