Green Dragon Hayride Wrap Up.
Oh man, did we ruin about 10 people's evening out to their local haunted hayride with our shenanigans. The evening began at the green dragon at about 8pm with the first few attendees arriving. As people arrived we lounged around the belly of the beast and had a few drinks, listened to music, BSed, no big deal. All told, our group was 14 people all caravaning down to Petersburg, KY toward Sandyland Acres for the innagural year of their haunted hayride. The directions were fairly easy, but this place is in the middle of nowhere (part of the reason I chose this haunted hayride) and the long stretch of route 20 off of 275 was a bit nerve-racking as the road wound back and forth and would wind to left while descending switftly. Exciting times. We get to the place finally and decide to heavy metal parking lot it for a few minutes - listened to the car stereo, those who do smoked a few cigarettes - there may have been a flask or 2 passed around. No worries. We begin to walk toward the ticket counter when this wolf lookin' dude pops out from behind the last car in the row, right next to me. I'll admit, I jumped and yelped a little bit.Sandyland Acres did a good job of having characters roam around the waiting and parking area. While waiting to buy my ticket, I felt a tap on my shoulder to turn around to find and exorcist-looking girl standing right behind me. I was kind of wondering why my everyone behind me grew a little quieter - thanks for looking out, jerks.Did I mention it was cold as balls out? Because it was. We had to wait about 2 hayrides before we could go so we had to time to wait in line. Some people used the port-a-potties and reported that there was a sign that stated something to the effect of "$25 to retrieve items from toilet". Ew, gross. (But I guess if you drop your keys or something - you can't really get around not getting them back). The hayride.
(This is already too long so the main part be highlights)
My favorite part by far was the end, in the tobacco barn with a great reproduction of Leatherface's workshop complete with a refrigerator full of nastiness AND it had the same sliding door as in the first kill from the original movie where he drags his victim through a doorway and slams the door. Brilliant! Then he come back through the sliding door with the signature chainsaw and threatens everyone in the wagon. Then goes away. The tractor pulls away and out of the barn to thinkg that you're home free and again leatherface comes out with the chainsaw and again in signature fashion swings it around as in the end of or the original movie. Top shelf.Another highlight was the headleass horseman on a real horse. Well Played.
Another was being chased by another tractor that swerved back and forth and came so close to hitting the wagon.
And lastly I enjoyed the witch the on a rope flew over the wagon from one side to the other. Very well done.I'm not a critic of haunted attractions or anything of the sort, but this group did an excellent job for being their first year. At the end of the ride, the driver sincerely asked for our opinion of how they did and our group gave them an honest positive response. I raved about the texas chainsaw massacre scene since I love the movie so much. I appreciated that they really wanted to know what we thought. It showed that they really carefully put everything together and seem to want to just make it better in the future.I would highly recommend trying this place out. www.sandylandacres.com It's certainly worth the drive.About My openeing line. A number of people in the party were a bit lit up from libations and we were all feeling pretty good in general, whether we were lubed up from drink or just basically having fun. We were majority of the wagon and we're young and dumb and the curse words and terrible jokes were flying around. I had a blast, but those poor people who also paid 10 bucks a piece had to endure our shit. Sorry, dudes. That's all for now. More Green Dragon events are certain to come. Hopefully next time there will be pictures to accompany my terrible recount of the stupidity.
THIS IS WHAT WE TRY SO HARD FOR, IS TO MAKE EACH VISTORS TRIP THIS MUCH FUN !!
