Alone and forgotten in the Icy Depths!

About Me

I am a 729 foot freighter, used to transport iron ore across Lake Superior. I was employed by the Oglebay Norton Company of Cleveland, Ohio. Until 1971, I was the largest ship on the Great Lakes. On November 10, 1975, while heading for Detroit, Michigan, I was lost in a severe gale seventeen miles northwest of White Fish Point. I went down in less than a minute, taking Capt. Ernest M. McSorley and 28 crewmen down with me. Since then I have laid moldering on the deep lake bottom, pinned down by the 26,000 tons of iron ore in my belly.
