She is not claiming to have written anything revelutionary, we all have very similiar positive out-look on plus-size modeling and the industry itself. It's a great read, something to be considered and taken to heart, so enjoy!Straight Size? Plus Size? The Right Size?Kristina SmithAccording to Wikapedia, "The Free Encyclopedia", the difference between a straight size and a plus size model is this...Straight size: By fashion industry standards, “Straight size” is the term internationally applied typically to women in the fashion industry, who are as small as size 2 and 4 and go up to a standard U.S size 8. What is Plus size? "Plus-size" is the term internationally applied typically to a women larger than a standard U.S. size 8, who models clothing for consumers wearing a dress size 10-14. [*] As I watch my 17 year old daughters modeling career develop I am becoming acutely aware that there is a definite difference between the fashion industries plus size and societies version of plus size.A debate actually broke out within a circle of my daughters friends and piers when they found out she was one of the 5 finalist for the cover shot of BOMBSHELL MAGAZINE, that she had recently returned from a photo shoot in LA. Most said, there is no way she was a plus size model, because she was too small to be plus size. Others tried to put it nicely by saying she was too “Curvy” to be a “Real” model. They were all shocked when my daughter told them, that even, some size 10’s depending on the designer are considered to be plus size.People are always saying to her...“Wow it must be so nice to be a plus size model, you never have to exercise and you can eat fast food all the time”.Her reply....
“Plus size doesn’t give me the excuse to be lazy and eat whatever I want, in fact its quite the opposite.”The plus size models she has to contend with are solid, toned and sporting an eight pack. And if you ask her, she is constantly striving to get past the stereo type... “I’m big, I’m loud and I’m proud“!Kailee say’s...“Don’t get me wrong, be proud of who you are, but it’s important to be seen in a positive light and to be taken seriously as a model”.She goes on to say... “ I personally think the only thing plus size models need to overcome in the fashion industry and in society today, are lowered expectations”.More then ever being a plus size, model is an opportunity to educate people, and contrary to public belief the requirements for a plus-size models are no different from those of high-fashion models. Excepting in larger overall bust-waist-hip measurements; they must also have excellent skin, hair and teeth, and emote well to the camera. [*]With the recent publicity surrounding the dangerously thin side of straight size models, more and more plus size models are being recognized, but is it enough to really determine the right size? Or, is being plus size the new trend on daytime television?Personally I don’t think the models are any thinner than they were 20, 10 or even 5 years ago, I just think our society is more aware and more educated. The road to equality between "Straight size and Plus size" has been paved with many good intensions, and plenty of set-backs have occured along the way, but I believe more and more designers are willing to take this road less traveled and are starting to look more closely at consumers, with an eye of reality.Someone once said that... “Beauty is not our own, but a reflection of ones culture”… With that being said, our culture today is very mixed and with all the ethnic backgrounds, the “Normal” fashion industry standards don’t apply. New standards must be set, women today have more curves and womanly figures are celebrated, not scorned. So what is the “Right Size”?The right size, whatever it may be, it should reflect a woman’s health and a healthy lifestyle whether it be a size 6 or a size 16.So I guess our Mothers were right when they told us "Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes"... and that should be our message.

Music:

I listen to anything and everything! Above all else, I enjoy anything hard, fast, and loud, but if I can't swing or skank to it then we're gonna have some problems. I've got a thing for Ska, Rockabilly, Psychobilly, Jungle and Jazz, Blues, Bluegrass and Country, Hard Rock, and down-right Rock'n'Roll. I LOVE alternative rock, screamo, hardcore, and angry boys who scream into microphones make me happy. But again, I'll listen to most anything you put on the radio. And not only do I listen to music, I write music, too!

Movies:

Comedies, action, the occasional romantic movie, period pieces, musicals (ROCKY HORROR!), independent films, B-movies, Slasher flicks, silent films. I'll watch anything with Johnny Depp in it because he's brilliant, as well Helena Bonham Carter. She makes me happy. I love Tim Burton, Quentin Tarantino, and Robert Rodriguez. They also make me happy.

Television:

Americas Next Top Model, Tyra Banks show, The Agency, Renno 911, Southpark, Halfway House, All the CSI shows, Re-runs of That 70'S Show, Cartoon Network...

Heroes:

Mom...you were 20 years old, alone and scared, you had 2 options....Thank you for choosing life.
