About Me

CARIBBEAN EDUCATION FOUNDATION (CEF) is a nonprofit, independent, non-governmental and nonpolitical organization based in the United States. CEF is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. CEF was established on the principle that education is the cornerstone to choice and opportunity for all people. It is committed to providing a solid education foundation for all children who are in financial need, particularly those who are underprivileged in urban and rural areas in Jamaica and the Caribbean. Visit WWW.EDUCATECHILD.ORG *********************************************************** The Caribbean Education Foundation is dedicated to the social and economic advancement of Jamaica and the developing world through a community-based and integrated approach to enlarge youths' access to quality education. ***********************************************************C EF believes that educated persons are the most powerful asset for transforming the intellectual capital, economy and civil life in Jamaica, the Caribbean and developing world. It focuses on increasing meaningful educational access and literacy through a grassroots and multidimensional model, which ensures effective delivery at the needed source. Our effective education solutions will significantly increase economic and social opportunities for all people. ************************************************************ ************************************************************
************************************************************ ************************************************************ HOW DOES CEF HELP? CEF awards scholarships to poor children in the Caribbean to attend school. Our current mission country is Jamaica, but we will expand to other regions in the Caribbean/Latin America in 2008-2009.The major issue in Jamaica is children's lack of access to schools. Primary School ends at Grade 6 and children have to pass an exam to get into High School (which begins Grade 7-12). A critical problem is that very bright children pass their exams for high schools, but are unable to attend due to lack of funds. *********************************************************** HIGH SCHOOL IS NOT FREE and parents cannot afford to pay the High School fees, purchase books, transportation, etc. CEF grants scholarships to children at all levels of education, but we focus on high school students. Our long-term goal is to ensure that each child who passed her or his exam for high school will be able to attend. We would like to thank the generosity of our sponsors, donors, partners and friends of education in the developing world. ************************************************************ **********************************************************BR IDGING THE FINANCIAL GAPS TO EDUCATION. CARIBBEAN EDUCATION FOUNDATION (CEF) awards scholarships to poor children in the Caribbean so they may attend schools and receive a quality education. *********************************************************** BRIDGING THE NUTRITION GAPS TO EDUCATION. CEF provides meal grants for breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks to youths in schools. As a result, youths will have proper nutrition to be able to fully absorb lessons being taught in schools. *********************************************************** BRIDGING THE COMPUTER LITERACY GAP TO EDUCATION. All children must be able to compete in the global economy. The majority of children in underserved schools lack exposure and/or access to computers.CEF donates computers to schools with the goal that each school will have at least one computer dedicated to children's learning. Our objective is to ensure that each school will gain sufficient computers for a computer laboratory, where students will become technologically literate and excel in this field. CEF core beliefs and values support its mission and drive our theory of transformation:********************************************* ************** ALL CHILDREN HAVE THE RIGHT TO A QUALITY EDUCATION.A quality education should be in accordance with The Convention on the Rights of the Child. Article 28 of The Convention on the Rights of the Child mandates that All children have the right to a primary education, which should be free…The Convention places a high value on education. Young people should be encouraged to reach the highest level of education of which they are capable.**************************************************** ******* ALL CHILDREN HAVE THE ABILITY TO LEARN AND EXCEL.All children have the potential to succeed, if given the proper access to necessary tools. Children with special needs whether gifted or challenged should be accommodated accordingly.************************************************ *********** EDUCATED CHILDREN CAN TRANSFORM THE ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL LANDSCAPE OF ANY NATION.CEF believes there is a high correlation between the percentage of meaningfully educated children in any community and the following achievements: becoming a productive member of society, achieving economic prosperity, changing familial poverty cycles, creating businesses that provide jobs to local populations, engaging in civil, social and cultural activities that advance the society and reducing participation in crimes and violent activities. *********************************************************** CEF WOULD LIKE TO MEET AND PARTNER WITH LOCAL, GRASSROOTS, AND INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS TO INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: Friends of Education, Friends and Supporters of the Caribbean, Sponsors, Donors, Corporations, Individuals, Philanthropists, Musicians, Producers, Filmakers, Directors, Photographers, Artists, Entertainers, Writers, Publicists, Publishers, Foundations, Ministries, and Socially-conscious human beings.
