As a young teenager my first opportunity to play in a party came from my grandmother,I guess, where I've reached today is thanks to her start. She wanted her grandson to play for her birthday party. I strung up a makeshift set and the rest is history. I was about 12-13 yrs old, my grandmother and my father kept music in the house, so I grew up on music. I came a long way. Gone are the days of the 78,33,& 45, the reel to reel and the 8 track(the old school version of the CD). I grew up on the vinyl and tapes, the dj school of Hard Knocks. From then to now, I've done it all. I've played the hip-hop in the early days of the music form, I've played the early dub and rockers of the reggae form, and as of 92 the soca. In 92, I was part of a sound system called "The Groove Masters". A name that didn't last to long due to a conflict with another dj,hence, the name"Ruckshun D' Massive Sounds". The sound system lasted about 3 years. After the split, I kept the name, basically because it was suggested to me as a name to use in the first place. They didn't want it so I ran with it, hence the name, "DJ Ruckshun". Now, it was a lot of dues to pay, on the way to where I am today. Before I became a dj, I was a party goer. I went to parties and listened to what was being played, who was playing it & what equipment they were using. Many mornings after parties, I would go home and write down, tunes I heard, the dj set up and equipment. I would take notes from some of what I call "the best DJ's"(DiscJockey) at that time. It was a learning process. I learned the dj art form of the "Mix and Blend", an art form not to many CD jockey's use these days. You had to be real good to master that skill with a record. You needed a good ear. Today you have a bpm(a device that counts the beats per minute for you) easy work. I have to give credit to dj's like, Che Che Big Beat(my mentor), Richard Simply Smooth, The Supreme Team, Sound City, Glen"GB Productions"Brathwaite, Rennie B, Shel Shock, Funky Fat Boy, Kid D(Fat Boy brother), Mr Ping, etc etc etc ... I could go on, but these are men that I got my style from. If You Can't MIX A Tune, Where The People Don't Even Hear The Music Change, Without, The Camouflage Of A Mc, YOUR NOT A DJ!!!! No disrespect to any one, but, come on, if you dancing, do you want to be offbeat? Anyway,Ruckshun the Dj, I've played here, there, and everywhere. Even though many people and other peers see me as a just come, i'ts not so. I did the parkway with a set and as a guest dj, I've recieved dj awards, my name in the daily news, played for celebs and goverment officials, played on the only, 100% soca underground station on the fm dial(@ that time) Bashment Radio 103.1 and I had the only soca morning show on radio! On Bashment is where I got to play with an elite group of dj's of the cd era, and, where I reunited with my Trinity Hall days Right hand man, Crazy Beeny. Me,him and the rest of the Trinity dj's ran fridays in brooklyn for years! Yeah! Well thats about that, anything more would just be blah, blah, blah......LOL.
