About Me

have fun watching this small part of a concert performed in tesla berlin...
The ensemble continuum was founded in Berlin in 2001 by the cellist and composer Wolfgang Zamastil, originally with the intention of further developing the musical style of the Tango Nuevo and of supporting as well as initiating new directions in this latter style of music by combining it ever more closely with other contemporary musical styles. In the intervening years, however, the members of the ensemble, and above all its founder and composer, have deepened their engagement with contemporary music in all its forms, so that their collective work is now guided by an aesthetic different from the one they began with and continuum makes music today on a new and altered foundation.
The “live concept” involves - besides all the usual points of difference from the “studio” situation, such as live audio mixing, light effects and greater spatial freedom – also, most particularly, the aspiration to dissolve the limits imposed by the typical “concert hall“ situation. The aim is that nothing at all should be imposed on the listener; he or she should have the freedom to sit, to lie down, or even to move about freely within the auditorium
The concerts are designed as audio-visual experiences. Present on the stage beside the musicians will be various still and moving images forming an actual element of the score and helping, hand in hand with the auditory elements of the performance, to visually supplement and complete the full realization of the compositional constructions.
An important role is played in the actualisation, on stage, of the total tonal construction by the special qualities of “live tone” technology. Elements of the total sound-picture which, under normal circumstances, would barely be audible – such as certain faint noises or certain nuances in the playing of the instruments – here become clearly audible, indeed even the central auditive elements of certain passages. A key role is played here by the tonal aesthetic established by the popular music of the 60’s and 70’s.
