Music of all sorts, film, art, books, history, politics, religion, you name it and I'm probably eager to talk about it or learn about it. Learning of any sort turns my mind on and I'm a big fan of things that turn me on.
Other musicians, free thinkers, travelers, wanderers, intellectuals...anyone that believes they have the power to change the world, even if it's just in one tiny way.
I want to meet people that enjoy drinking good wine and engaging in good conversation about stimulating topics and in general contributing to the well being of others by being great people themselves. I only talk politics and religion with people that are mature enough to debate without arguing or taking things personally and I find meaningless small talk very tedious.
After living in L.A. for 11 years, I am not turned on by celebrity or those who lust after it, especially the hangers-on that use others to help them claw one rung higher up the ladder. Honest, genuine people are more my speed.
Damn, this is where it gets difficult. I'm gonna have to think about this one for a few minutes... I'll be back!
In no particular order: Band of Brothers; The Godfather I and II; Star Wars (the original three); Indiana Jones (all of them!); What the Bleep do we know?!; Breakfast at Tiffany's; The Game; Blow; The Incredibles; The Big Lebowski; Kill Bill 1&2; Pulp Fiction; Great Expectations; Thomas Crown Affair; Office Space; Lord of the Rings trilogy; any and all documentaries - especially Hell House and stuff about politics, music or religion; The Apartment; Hero; Amelie; Kung Fu Hustle; The Swimming Pool; Uh... I could probably go on for days. I love movies. :)
I barely watch any TV. In fact, most of what I do watch comes from Netflix, though there are a few shows I definitely love: Anything Mike Judge touches, House, Six Feet Under (I'm obsessed with this show), The Sopranos, Sex and the City, pretty much anything on the Discovery or History channels and their related subsidiaries.
Stephen King's Dark Tower series - this is some of the best storytelling I have ever read. Anne Rice and all of her witches and vampires, plus the sleeping beauty stuff ;) Dan Brown. Fast Food Nation. The Kite Runner. Any Shakespeare, but particularly King Lear and Othello. The Alchemist. The Chronicles of Narnia. On the Road. The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Faulkner - especially Light in August. Stephen Hawking. I have been devouring books lately - if anyone has any recommendations, I'd love to read them!
Brad Smith from Blind Melon. That guy writes the best parts over some of the coolest music... and if you think I'm just talking about No Rain, you need to go back and do your homework. Those guys were one of the best rock bands to ever take the stage and it's a shame their path ended as soon as it did. Shannon, you are missed every day.
My little brother is about as close to the perfect dad I have ever seen. I would say he's definitely my GI Joe Real American Hero and someone I strive to emulate.
And, check out this video, it's amazing! Thanks to Ayelet for turning me onto this:
