About Me

Hey Everyone! Thanks for visiting my page! I'm a singer/songwriter from Crown Point, Indiana. I attend Columbia College in downtown Chicago, majoring in Music Business with concentrations in Marketing and Promotion.
Since I was a little girl, my dream has been to be a country singer. However, as I'm getting older and writing my own songs, I'm finding out that my writing styles vary from country to folk to alternative to rock... Maybe I just need to "find myself"- I love everything! :-)
I've always thought it would be fun to play the guitar, and to this day I have no idea why I waited so long to start! Right before my 18th birthday I bought one for $50 bucks off some old man in Hammond. Big waste of money- it was garbage and sounded awful, but what did I know? He told me it was great! Luckily, I only had it for a few months before my dad and I picked up an Ovation that I am still in love with. Anyway, the first few songs that I wrote were extremely simplistic to say the least. I would get so frustrated with writing because I could never think of anything fantastic to say. This is when I really started to find myself as a musician and songwriter. I learned that if you let go and write down what you're really feeling, it's a lot more captivating and real.
Don't be fooled, though. My life is not interesting enough to come up with a ton of songs based on my own experience. Many of the songs I write do come from my own life experiences, but many come from watching my friends and family go through them. Everyone has a story, and I love taking snapshots with a song or two.
You can take a look at my long list of influences in the "Influences" section, but I just want to take a sec to point out some of the most influential musicians in my life. First, my mom. If it weren't for her singing harmony with me before I could even talk, I am absolutely certain that I would not have had such a strong interest in music. She taught me how to hold my part early and I am extremely thankful for that. She also talked me into joining choir in high school, which I will never be able to thank her enough for! Next, Jewel is probably the best musician I have ever heard. Her songs are so real and she's an extremely talented singer and instrumentalist. I can only hope to become half the artist that she is. Finally, Miranda Lambert and Avril Lavigne. Although they come from completely different ends of the music world, they hold the same qualities that make me admire their talent. Not only do they write about the real world, but they make every song leave an undying impact on the listener.
Well, that's a wrap. If you would like to know anything else, just ask!! Thanks for coming to my page!
"When I speak of the gifted listener, I am thinking of the nonmusician primarily, of the listener who intends to retain his amateur status. It is the thought of just such a listener that excites the composer in me." -Aaron Copland
Help end child sexual abuse. Child sexual abuse has been reported up to 80,000 times a year, but the number of unreported instances is far greater, because the children are afraid to tell anyone what has happened, and the legal procedure for validating an episode is difficult. Child sexual abusers can make the child extremely fearful of telling, and only when a special effort has helped the child to feel safe, can the child talk freely.
