Hi y'all, and thanks for visiting my page. I am a full-time working percussionist in the Boulder/Denver area. The primary bands i play with are ONDA (salsa/latin jazz, www.ondalive.com) Jubal and the Rudeboys (roots reggae, www.myspace.com/jubalmusic) Soul Sacrifice (Santana cover band, www.myspace.com/soulsacrificetributeband) and The Paper Stars (folksy americana, www.myspace.com/tresaltman.) With The Paper Stars i play kit, but am otherwise busiest playing congas and other hand percussion, although i also sometimes cover the timbale seat with Onda. Anyways............what can i say? Percussion is my passion as well as my profession. Although i have done some learning in Cuba (Havana/Matanzas) and Africa (Zimbabwe,) most of my learning has taken place in the U.S. with a variety of master drummers in the SF/Bay Area, Boulder/Denver, as well as Santa Fe/Albuquerque. I am currently most focused on Afro-Cuban rhythms and percussion (congas, bongos, timbales, and bata.) In addition to playing with the aforementioned bands, i also accompany African (Ghana-style) and afro-cuban dance classes at CU Boulder. I record from time to time with local acts, as well as picking up gigs with groups that may only want percussion sometimes. I also enjoy working with DJ's. So that's what i do. As for where i'm coming from..........I'm primarily interested/involved with helping dancers get their groove on. If you can come to one of my gigs and let loose for awhile and forget about the day.... i've done my job. ............................................................ ..oh yeah, i guess this is where i'm supposed to name-drop: I've done sit-ins with The String Cheese Incident, The B-Side Players, Caberet Diosa, and many others...as well as subbing some gigs for my friend and teacher, Jose Rossy (of Weather Report.) I've had the pleasure of touring with Aphrodesia, twice, as well as appearing on a track on their new live album "Rough and Funny."
