A studio singer, he is not. A producer driven artist he is not. A star he is! L. Youngs style is the equivalent of what music used to be, "original". With the recent flourish of such talented Kentucky artists as the Nappy Roots, it was only inevitable that this bluegrass-bred singing sensation would soon take the music industry by storm. Taking a chaotic blend of Kentucky bluegrass, country, gospel, and hip-hop/R&B, L transforms it into a sound so smooth it could pour from a bottle of Southern Comfort!
Born and raised in Louisville, Ky., L. grew up singing and playing the drums and piano for the church choir. While at the Youth Performing Arts High School he formed an a cappella gospel/jazz/R&B quartet, WALC, which won the Grand Prize at the Youth Talent International competition competing against over 1,400 acts from the U.S. and Canada. As a member of Louisvilles Next Generation musical review, L. toured the continental U.S. as well as Europe, Hawaii and The Bahamas, while also starring in various musicals and plays. After graduating from the Youth Performing Arts High School, he attended Wright St. University where he majored in acting. In his music career L. has graced the stage with such artists as Patti LaBelle, Sisqo, Toni Braxton, Busta Rhymes, Gladys Knight, Blackstreet, and Tyrese just to name a few.
Some of his credits include production of Babygirl (Terrys Theme) for B2K on the 2002 Barbershop Soundtrack, writing with the production team of Carvin Haggins and Ivan Borias (Karma Prod.) for the new Jamie Foxx album (J Records), and writing and production on several up and coming projects such as David Brown of American Idol season 4 fame. L. also has songs on the platinum selling Booty Call soundtrack, Dangerous Grounds, The Long Kiss Goodnight, and Phat Beach soundtracks.
With soothing vocals, creative writing, production and arranging skills, arguably on a level above his peers, L. is the definition of self contained Artist. His dynamic and seemingly flawless live performances have earned him a reputation in Los Angeles, where he now resides, as a true entertainer. In a business where electronic enhancements essentially create artists, L. Young has managed to remain marketable, while still being innovative and loyal to his identity as a musician. "I pray that in my music somebody finds hope, or some kind of inspiration. I just want my music to effect some kind of change from the Grandmamas all the way down to the chil'rens. Im trying to save lives, mine included, one CD at a time."
