WRONG MUSIC

FREDRIK SÖDERBERG (b. in 1966) writes serious music along with music for films, exhibitions, art installations, pop music, and media. WRONG MUSIC EMBRYO II for clarinet and tape was premiered in Båstad/Sweden 2004 and is a sister work to WRONG MUSIC for electric viola, chamber orchestra, and tape, premiered by HENRIK FRENDIN and GAGEEGO! in Vienna/Austria (2002). FRENDIN has also performed the first EMBRYO (electric viola and tape) all over the world. EMBRYO refers to it being a precursor to what might possibly become a larger work. "Before I started to work with EMBRYO II, I Listened quite a lot to the soloist STAFFAN MÅRTENSSON and concentrated on his beautiful tone, high technical level, and his interest in experimenting". The music is carefully notated but its character is improvisational. "The inspiration comes from old rural psalms and ambient music, a floating music with role models such as BRIAN ENO. FREDRIK SÖDERBERG does not use synthetic sounds but rather utilizes prerecorded material from acoustic instruments - here French Horns and strings - which he reworks. "Much of the music being written today is high energy music. I want to find another energy and tonal language as a contrast. "To enter the music of FREDRIK SÖDERBERG is akin to wandering around in a dream. The music shifts between quick movements and slow, almost sacred sections. The calm is occasionally disturbed by some energetic pizzicati in the strings. The clarinet sings like a lonely bird.
