FLIGHT 19
In 1991, oceanic explorer and submarine designer Graham Hawkes probed the Flight 19 mystery, using a special underwater craft capable of diving to 3,000 feet and withstanding pressure of 1,000 pounds per square inch. Hawkes located the underwater wreckage of five Avenger aircraft, clustered in a 1.2 nautical-mile radius, sitting upright and largely undamaged. When Hawkes tried to verify the identify of the planes, however, they turned out not to be the planes from Flight 19. These were other lost military aircraft that — by some bizarre coincidence — had crashed separately in the same area."If you like a mystery," Hawkes told a newspaper interviewer at the time, "the Bermuda Triangle, I'm afraid, is more alive and well than it was before."
