My personal development as a martial artist was somewhat traditional untill I met Terry Evans and Gary Polwart. They both taught me to THINK not just do what I was shown. Following on from these ideas I believe I have encouraged this self awareness in all of my students.
My theory is that this development of your own personal identity as a martial artist is essential if we are to avoid creating an army of mindless drones ..... These drones may be easy to control and manage but I believe there are enough people out there who are empire building and I don't want to be one of them - the best thing one of my students could ever do for me is to question something that helps me to develop myself further as a practitioner. The day I stop learning is the day I start dying !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are the sort of person who wants to hero worship their instructor and take their opinions as you own then we are probably coming from different perspectives.
To those hardcore practitioners out there .... I have no disagreement that full contact training better prepares you for combat - My question to you is that if your only level of response is maximum, what options does that leave you ???
