About Me

The goal with this site is to act as a linking tool for jiu-jitsu (and all its varied spellings) clubs nationally and internationally. If we can work together we can help raise the profile of jiu jitsu in general for the benefit of the art. As I learn how to use this I will add links to other martial arts clubs as well as any other relevant links. I want this site to represent the full spectrum of martial arts. From the clubs out there that want to teach you relevant life skills and don't expect you to train 24/7, to those hardcore extremes that expect you to live/breath/sleep the art we want to connect you all so together we can remind everybody that jiu-jitsu is out there and that all styles within this spectrum have their relevant benefits. If you wish your link to be listed on my site please leave a comment and I will attend to it. LINKS TO LOCAL SITES: The New Zealand Jiu Jitsu Federation This site contains all relevant information regarding the New Zealand Jiu Jitsu Federation Reaction Martial Arts A local jiu jitsu club based in Mt Roskill, Auckland - they specialise in traditional self defense syllabus for adults and tournament focused training for kids These guys have just recently updated their web page, pretty cool - go check it out Training times: Adults Monday & Wednesday 6.45 - 8.00 Kids 10+ Wednesday 5.45 - 6.30, Thursday 6.35 - 7.20 Fighttimes.com This site used to be a paper magazine before it become an e mag .... I kinda miss the old fashioned paper copies, but the current articles are the same high quality. A wide variety of articles on sports, defense, nutrition, technique, philosopy and martial history. A refreshing change to the overly slick sales pitches that some martial arts mags use instead of articles, fighttimes expects its readers to actually form their own opinion on topics - CHECK IT OUT !!! JIUJITSU.CO.NZ This site is set up and run by an avid martial arts enthusiast/practitioner, keen to share ideas and concepts with other members of the Jiu Jitsu and Judo community. Mostly a blog at this stage but can be contributed to by any person who wishes to put their ideas into the public domain. If you wish to contribute then e mail the webmaster, the aim is to be apolitical and encourage sharing of ideas between ALL martial artists. INTERNATIONAL LINKS KIDOKAN INT. These guys are a lot more mma focussed than some but if their vids are anything to go by then they roll HARD, check out their page for their perspective on ju jitsu

My Interests

Music:

Influences: My personal development as a martial artist was somewhat traditional untill I met Terry Evans and Gary Polwart. They both taught me to THINK not just do what I was shown. Following on from these ideas I believe I have encouraged this self awareness in all of my students. My theory is that this development of your own personal identity as a martial artist is essential if we are to avoid creating an army of mindless drones ..... These drones may be easy to control and manage but I believe there are enough people out there who are empire building and I don't want to be one of them - the best thing one of my students could ever do for me is to question something that helps me to develop myself further as a practitioner. The day I stop learning is the day I start dying !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you are the sort of person who wants to hero worship their instructor and take their opinions as you own then we are probably coming from different perspectives. To those hardcore practitioners out there .... I have no disagreement that full contact training better prepares you for combat - My question to you is that if your only level of response is maximum, what options does that leave you ???
