The Cathedrals

About Me

One of the greatest Southern Accapella Gospel Groups of all time, George Younce, Glen Payne, Ernie Haase, Scott Fowler, and Roger Bennett. Founder and bass vocalist of the group, George Younce grew an interest in Southern gospel music at the early age of 15 in his hometown of Patterson, NC, as he began listening to radio programs featuring the Blue Ridge Quartet. The next year, he joined his first quartet. The Cathedrals began in 1964 with Rex Humbard Ministries, which broadcast nationally from the Cathedral of Tomorrow in Akron. The group went out on their own in 1969. Their last tour, The Farewell Tour soldout many venues, including the Gainesville, GA auditorium. George and Glen retired at the end of the Farewell Tour, in 1999. After the death of Glen Payne, Roger and Scott started touring with their new formedly group The Legacy Five, in January 2000. Click here to check them out. We regret to inform our fans that George Younce passed away on April 11, 2005. We are glad that he is with our savior up in heaven.
