Putting the 'sic' in game music.

About Me

I love composing music for videogames, film, and television. Out of the three, videogames have stolen my heart. As much as I love film, I find the compositional challenges in videogames to be extremely satisfying. I also love how the people in the game industry keep challenging each other to make better art. This is something I'd love to see more of in film. This is what I personally challenge my composer colleagues to be up to...raising the bar. My notable game credits: Dirty Harry, Dragonshard, War of the Ring, Outcast (2000 AIAS Best Music Nominee) Additional Music credits: Prince Caspian, Snoopy vs. the Red Baron

My Interests

I'm primarily interested in all things musical, gaming, film, and my personal relationships with friends and family. You can occasionally find me online playing Star Wars Galaxies on the Intrepid server with my toons Omar and Gnova.

I'd like to meet:

Game Developers and Publishers, Film & TV Directors/Producers

Music:

I'm a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, with a B.A. degree in Jazz Composition. Although I'm more well known for writing orchestral music, I actually learned how to do that by self-study - analyzing scores and doing a lot of listening and reading. I've studied conducting for 6 years with the late Maestro William Kettering. I've also been teaching Composing for Games courses at both UCLA Extension and USC Thornton School of Music.

Movies:

I'll organize this by Composer... John Corigliano - Altered States, The Red Violin; Jerry Goldsmith - Alien, Chinatown, Coma, The Omen, Patton; John Williams - Close Encounters of the Thrid Kind, Jaws, Star Wars "Sextilogy", Raiders of the Lost Ark; Bernard Herrmann - Citizen Kane, The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, North by Northwest, Psycho. There are so many more but there's not enough space here!

Television:

I gave up cable television over two years ago due to feeling ill from watching too much CNN. I'm much better now and have much more time in my day to do more creative things!

Books:

I collect Philip K. Dick novels. I also love the Harry Potter series, works of J.R.R. Tolkien, Arthur C. Clarke, Richard Bach, Herman Hesse, Jack Kerouac, Hunter S. Thompson, and individual books like Black Elk Speaks and Ender's Game.

Heroes:

Igor Stravinski, John Corigliano, Bela Bartok, Gil Evans, Arif Mardin, Quincy Jones, Orson Wells, Bernard Herrmann, and the first guys to land on the moon (Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and Michael Collins).
