Born into an extremely musical family in 1985, Zach Schmidt began his study of percussion at the early age of four and piano at the age of seven. Zach's love and passion for music has evolved into many different genres over the last fifteen years.Zach had the great privilege in attending St. Mary's Central High School in Bismarck, ND. Recognized as an instrumental program of excellence, St. Mary's gave him the opportunity to work with artists such as Terry Peffer, John Pederson, Larry Panella and Dave Mancini. During his four years in high school, Zach received many honors and awards. Selected to the ND High School All-State Band and Jazz Ensemble, he was able to work with Frederick Fennell, John Fedchock, Doug Beach and Jim Mair. During his senior year, Zach was selected to receive the Outstanding Jazz Musician Award at the University of Mary Jazz Festival from over 1,000 student musicians.Upon graduating in 2003, Schmidt moved on to study under Scott Prebys while attending the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND. Zach was able to perform with guest artists Greg Bissonette, Bob Montgomery, Dennis Connelly, Rueben Alvarez, Tom Teasley, Phil Solomon, Elli Mannhette and Frank Mantooth.Zach is currently in his fourth semester at McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in drumset performance. At McNally Smith, he is studying many different styles of music with world renowned artists and teachers Dave Schmalenberger, Michael Pilhofer, Dave Stanoch, Marv Dahlgren, Bobby Stanton and Gordy Knutson. During his time at McNally, Schmidt has had the honor of being a featured artist in Jazziz Magazine.In addition to school, Schmidt keeps a very busy performance schedule in the Twin Cities area appearing and performing with Adrianne Lenker, Wain Mcfarlane, Jason Peterson, Billy Franze, Zack Lozier, “Downtown†Bill Brown and Chris Olson.
