CONTACTO: [email protected] ENGLISH: Guitarist, composer, arranger, producer and musicologist, Antonio Jose Gomez was born in Almeria (Spain) in 1972. A self-trained musician, he has participated in international seminars where he has studied jazz with musicians like Pat Metheny, Bruce Forman, Mike Richmond, Adam Nussbaum, Ken Werner, Barry Harris, Trilok Gurtu, Manolo Sanlucar, Michael Grossman, and others. He has also played with musicians like Jorge Pardo, Tomas San Miguel, Chano Dominguez, Tito Alcedo, Javier Ruibal, Carlos Carli, Victor Merlo, Carles Benavent, Pedro Ruyblas, Jose Vazquez "Roper," Francis Pose, Antonio Serrano, Tomatito, and others. In 1990 he founded in AlmerÃa the band Sonido Blanco Quartet in which his early compositions start to sound in the different editions of the International Jazz Festival of Almeria. In 1995, after completing his studies in Musicology at the University of Granada, Spain, he meets a wide range of musicians from different backgrounds and origins. He then settles in Huelva where he plays with local musicians such as the saxophonist Antonio Mesa. In 1996 he starts working on the composition of music based on traditional Christmas carols culminating in the recording of her first album. In the recording of this work he counted on the help of great friends like the guitarist Jose Fernandez (Tomatito), also from Almeria. This first record comes to light in December 1997 under the title "Guitarra de Navidad". This record means its recognition at the national level which led him to collaborate with some of the best jazz musicians in Spain. Thus, in 2001 he founded the band "San Miguel / Gomez Quartet" with Tomas San Miguel, Carlos Carli and Victor Merlo. They recorded a live album at the Cafe Central (Madrid) in February 2003. He has collaborated with many bands and projects, including as a composer of music for theater and in the album "Vientos Flamencos" by Jorge Pardo both as a composer and a performer. In his teaching facet, since 1995 he is a teacher of Music at a High School. He has also taught Music at the University of Almeria, where he is carrying out a research project on the folk music of the Province of Almeria. At present the band "Antonio Gomez Group" is devoted to several projects: "Jazz Navidad" based on his first album "Guitarra de Navidad" and "Aires de Mar" his new job that has just been released. ------------------------------------------------------------ ---- P R O Y E C T O S ------------------------------------------------------------ ----
