It all started from a very young age, perhaps even before he can remember, DJ Demolic has always been hugely influenced by the art of music and the collaboration of sounds used to create it. His father, having been a drummer in a band, constantly played around Demolic, and heard his other band mates playing as well, creating an insatiable craving for unique sounds and discovery of different genres, newer edge and different. His mother, also deeply interested in music and club life, started her own business and owns a club, this may be where his desire to be up at night and love the night life came from. By the time he was 13, artists/bands like The Prodigy, Crystal Method, Propeller Heads, Incubus, Linkin Park, and Limp Biskit, namely bands with DJ's sparked his interest into the ambient sounds, unconventional beats and turntablism skills used beyond regular instruments he had heard throughout his lifetime.
After extensive research, finding out about how turntables were use... he bought a program called Mixman Studio 6.0, and loaded in looped samples, and made several tracks with no theory of track structure or any electronic background, making a small CD for his own entertainment. He thought about buying turntables but decided against it, financially it was impossible so he focused on other instruments like Drums and Electric Guitar.
By the time he was 16 he had heard Gothic Metal, and small doses of Industrial which furthered his research into Electronica. Falling upon underground genres mainly from Europe was almost pure coincedence. Trance, Hard Dance and Jungle genres soon became an obsession. Thousands of hours later he made the final decision to invest a large amount of money on a pair of decks and a mixer, and bought a few pieces of vinyl.
August 06, DJ Demolic was born. Within several months of dedicated practice and persistent spinning, he perfected his beat matching and turntablism skills to an art, and with his underground track selection unheard of by many locals in his area, he played his first set at Club Pavilion in Portland, (also the first time he had stepped foot in a club), December 06, four months later. Meeting many different friends who also shared love for club music, his mission to inspire increased.
He was then asked to do a new years party to launch off 07. Playing a very hard set for about 8 hours along side DJ Empyrean and DJ Fiend, from vinyl and his computer he had previously mixed ahead of time, many people were shocked and satisfied at the potent performance, left wanting more. This fueled his passion to inspire many minds to know and love the harder styles as much as he did. Combining a ferocious array of assaulting bass, violating synth, and boundless energy for his music, he was much respected for his dedication, and made many friends and fans.
But his satisfaction was not complete in the slightest. Not only wanting to spin such great music, but create and produce, sent him on a journey to find the materials he needed. Eventually picking up a variety of programs, he started making his own music, also learning keyboard along the way, and creating all sub genres ranging from hard trance/hardstyle/gabber, to hard step/dark step/ tech step/idm. This is where he currently is.
What does the future hold? "Definately a lot of stuff for the summer.", he says, grinning. "People will be out more and willing to party, winter is sort of a depressing season, and it lasts a really long time in Maine." And for the even bigger future? One day he hopes to produce tracks people will listen to and appreciate worldwide, and not just one genre, but many. Maybe even one day, create a genre of his own. Time and patience will tell, and dedication or creativity is certainly not looking like any obstacle in this eager DJ/Producer's path.
