I am here for Dating, Friends and Networking

About Me

I'm a songwriter who doesn't sing. Although I'm pretty introverted, I desire to let people in and expose every part of my personality. The frames of my glasses are zebra-striped on the inside and plain black on the outside, which might be somewhat appropriate. I am an evolutionist, but I don't see that as being incompatible with religions at all. I enjoy learning about existentialism. I used to take accordion lessons from a nun, but my main instrument is electric guitar. If you live in the same town as me, you may have seen me riding around on an oversized recumbent tricycle.
I went to school to be a recording engineer, but for the time being, I'm working at a record store. My long-term plan is to either work at a studio or complete a graduate German program so that I can teach German at a college while doing recording work on the side.
During college, I spent a year in Germany and a month in Austria. One of the great things about being in Europe was that I got to meet new friends from over thirty countries on six continents. I thrive on being in places where I don't fully understand the rules of when I can and can't cross the street; when I travel outside the US, everything seems new and mysterious and makes me feel like a second grader again. In some ways, I would like to eventually return to Germany, but in other ways, I'd rather to live here.
In addition to guitar and accordion, I play (or have in the past played) mandolin, piano, and saxophone. My main influences as a musician are Frank Zappa, Tool, Wilco, Elvis Costello, Metallica, Nirvana, Malcolm and Angus Young, Iron Maiden, Duane Allman, and John Frusciante. I also have a special affinity for 80's music, doom metal, 20th century classical, and bluegrass.

My Interests

recording music, guitar, songwriting, recumbent cycling, redheads, German language, Germany, German beer, dark beer, food and beer combinations, tattoos, foreign film, independent film, microphone placement, airbrushing, human rights activism, photography, album cover art, environmentalism, recycling, protection of constitutional rights, Amnesty International, the 80's, existential psychology, humanistic psychology, psychoanalytic theory, personality psychology, heavy metal bands with vocalists who sing, slide guitar, guitars that look and feel like trees, Southern literature, ballroom dancing, Indian food, North African food, travel, hiking, working out, yoga

So now that I've been wearing blue jeans for 6 months, I still don't understand why they're considered to be more laid back than khakis. For example, I'd much rather to sleep in khakis than jeans. I...
