AFRICAN-AMERICAN AUTHOR BREATHS NEW LIFE INTO STALE CULTURAL ISSUE: NEW BOOK OFFERS POSITIVE, ENTERTAINING PORTRAYAL OF BLACK COMMUNITYFor decades, the media and literature have largely depicted the Black- American community as criminals, welfare recipients, drug and sex addicts, gang-bangers, or, on the other end of the spectrum, multi-millionaire sports figures and music moguls with nothing to strive for in between. From movies like The Mack, Super-fly, and Dolamite to rappers like 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg portraying a hardened way of life that includes drugs, gangs, police shootings and ‘hos’, positive African-American portrayals remain scarce.
Whole generations of young Black-Americans think the only things that they could only be a professional in are athlete, actor, singer, rapper, comedian, or gangster only those high a profile stereotypes that don’t require them to extend the intellectual ability. Statistically it has been found that the chances of Black-America becoming one of these high-profile professions are virtually impossible.
Now, one Black-American man is stepping forward and personally taking it upon himself to negate the decades of stereotypes placed on the black community in a unique way into proclaim that the there are many Black-Americans go to work everyday in excellent professions that contribute to keep in America number one in the world in intellectual properties.
Following in the footsteps of advocacy groups like YAAMS (Young African-Americans Against Media Stereotypes) and the NAACP (The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) Clay Anderson, critically acclaimed author of Black Rose Murder is taking important steps to mitigate the negative portrayal of the black community in media and literature, not through his voice, but rather through his powerful words.
Black Rose Murder follows the story of Detective Jason Justice, a late-thirties African American male living in San Francisco. He owns a well respected personal service company that is contracted to provide security in downtown San Francisco as well all the embassies in the Bay Area to provide security for their diplomats. Justice is an educated, affluent member of his community, makes a good living, and enjoys the finer things in life. His most recent case involves tracking down two men involved in a plot to embezzle money from a large government project in the San Francisco Bay area. These true to life projects, The Treasure Island project and The Hunt Point project, are both regularly in the national news and there is an ongoing investigation into them at the present moment.
“The unique thing about my book,†Anderson explains, “is that it doesn't deal with preconceived stereotypes of Black-Americans in the current world today. There are a lot of black people who are respected members in their communities, such as San Francisco’s recently elected black mayor.â€
“As a person who lives in a similar environment as my character Jason Justice,†Anderson adds, “I know how hard it is to get the press or politicians to recognize the progress that Black-Americans have made over the last 30 years, whether is it working in high-power positions or being leaders in their professions in those very important jobs you don't hear about every day.â€
“Often, the best way to make positive change, or at least contribute toward improvement of social issues is to wrap a message in entertainment.â€Clay Anderson grew up in Oakland, California, in a time when our country was going through tremendous change concerning human rights. He graduated from high school during the Vietnam era spent three years in the military in Germany in the communication field. After his tour ended, Anderson entered San Francisco State University where received a BA in Communications with an emphasis on film. He started work on his masters and was a lecturing professor at the university. In the early 1970’s he took a job with the General Services Administration as a contract administrator and a contract negotiator where he was in charge of purchasing government material with national contracts. He retired from the federal government after 25 years of service and started getting into more creative ventures including writing his first novel, Black Rose Murder. He currently lives in Hercules, Ca.

Our Deepest Fear by Marianne Williamson from A Return To Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.â€All OF MANKIND THAT OVERCOME OUR DEEPEST FEAR!!!
