After writing and recording six albums with The Dipsomaniacs, Holm released his first solo album, "The Vanishing Act", in February 2005. The album was released on his own Cutwater Records in Norway, and will get a worldwide release on the Australian Camera Obscura Records in July.
Some of the nice things said about "THE VANISHING ACT":
"Holm has produced possibly his strongest collection of music, and that says a lot." 5/6 Adresseavisen, Trondheim(Norway)
"Øyvind Holm, plain and simple, is one of the best pop craftsmen we have in Norway, and it is about time that more people discover his absurdly large talent", 5/6 Nordlys, Tromso (Norway)
"This is an album I know Ill keep returning to on a regular basis. " Broken Face (http://thebrokenface.blogspot.com)
*Terrascope Online Reviews (UK): "imagine if Lennon took some time out after Rubber Soul to test the solo waters and youd have an inkling of the aural treats that await you"
* High Bias (US): "On The Vanishing Act Holm tones down the trippy experimentalism and highlights his genius for instantly memorable melodies. Topping off his performances with a John Lennonesque voice, Holm casually tosses off gem after gem"
* Psychotropic Zone (Finland): "On this album Holm has polished to brilliance his ability to write great pop songs"
* Dream Magazine (US): "If you've heard any of the Dipsomaniacs albums you have a good idea of what to expect here; though it's likely this is his most mature, and fully realized set of songs yet. "
* Foxy Digitalis (US):"Every song here provides a worthy antidote for the coming cold season, literally and metaphorically. Any real fan of melodic folk and psych pop should dig." 8/10
* Fake Jazz (US): "Having absorbed the perfect harmonies and tight song constructions of the Fab Four, the keen satiric eye and acerbic wit of Ray Davies, Elvis Costello and XTC, the sly self-deprecation of Matthew Sweet, and the wistful insight of Karl Wallinger's World Party, Holm balances all of these elements with a fondness for reviving and updating the aesthetic inclusiveness of psychedelic pop. The resulting concoctions have both an easily digestible sheen and deep flavors that linger." 10/12
* Aural Innovation (US): "A big part of the magic lies in the combination of otherworldly songwriting, impeccable 60's styled vocals and detailed attention to production. I don't see George Martin's name in the credits but I half expected to"
