About Me

"Talent borrows, genius steals." (Oscar Wilde) "It takes strength to be gentle and kind." (Morrissey) "The devil wears Prada, Adam & Eve wear nada - I'm in between, but a whole lot fresher" (Kanye West) PIERRE OITMANN "Growing old in inevitable, growing up is optional" (Anonymous) Still working on that 'get rich fast and easy' scam. So far, without results. Any input is appreciated and will be rewarded generously. For those of you who contributed to my 'ten-year plan to inherit a bounty island with a luxurious resort': Please, don't bother helping - You owe me money... I'm trying to write a Christmas hit, to terrorize radio's and shopping malls across the world during the holiday season for the next twenty years. It doesn't really work out with my songwriting partner, though. They told me to get that guy from Wham!, but how was I to know Andrew Ridgeley wasn't more than a show-off to make George Michael look less gay? I also asked Bob Geldof, but he's only in for charity. I'm sorry, Bob, but if you can't get The Smiths to play on Live Aid, then why bother doing it all over again? Also, the marriage with the Victoria's Secrets super model is off, because she found out I got one of the Spice Girls pregnant. Fortunately, I don't remember which one. But I heard she blamed Eddie Murphy for doing it. Bless you, Eddie, for where would I be without people blaming you for the crap I've pulled? Ah, good times... Okay, I'll come clean with you guys and gals: Not all of the above story is entirely true. But I had to put down something, right? Now, for the stuff that I did do and the stuff that I'm planning on doing in the near future, please read below. You've come this far, you might as well go on reading, don't ya...? .. And if the stacks of CDs of my desk prove anything, then it's that my musical taste is pretty broad, varying from the soothing and sometimes soaring tunes from Carpenters to early heavy metal riffs from Iron Maiden and from pre-WW2 recordings by Louis Armstrong and Bing Crosby to the post-apocalyptic sounds of Annihilator. But, although I have the latter band's first four albums, Annihilator doesn't rank high on my list of most played albums. Not that there is such a list, but if there would be, they'd be dangling in the lower regions. My profile pages on both Last FM and iLike give a pretty decent overview of what music I like a lot, even given the fact that they've only been tracking (or 'scrobbling') the music that I play for a fairly short period (Last FM since June 2007, iLike since August 2006).I started writing CD and live reviews on a regular basis in 2005 (however, some earlier reviews exist). Most of these can be found on the music website 3VOOR12/Limburg , some others on the related pages of 3VOOR12/Eindhoven and 3VOOR12/Tilburg . Since 2007 I've been a writer for pop magazines Playground and LiveXS , and from spring 2008 on I will start writing reviews for the popular music websites Podiuminfo and Festivalinfo .Artists whose performances I reviewed include After Forever, Stevie Ann, Anouk, Blondie, Bloodhound Gang, Anne Clark, Editors, Epica, Evanescence, John Fogerty, Nelly Furtado, The Gathering, Gogol Bordello, Good Charlotte, Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, Kaiser Chiefs, Juliette Lewis & The Licks, The Long Blondes, The Magic Numbers, Maximo Park, Morrissey, Muse, The Pipettes, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Roxy Music, Simple Minds, Sting, Toy Dolls, Uriah Heep, The Waterboys, Kim Wilde, Within Temptation and many more. Some reviews (in Dutch only): The Long Blondes + I Kissed Charles @ Melkweg, Amsterdam Gogol Bordello + Skindred @ 013, Tilburg Heideroosjes + Jeremy's @ De Bosuil, WeertFurthermore, I've been in the jury of several local band contests: Battle For Limburg (2006-2008), Podiumvrees (preliminiaries 2007-2008), Hajjewa (2007), Nu Of Nooit (preliminaries 2008) and Kunstbende Limburg (preliminaries 2008). Winners included SAT2D, Circle Of Silence and 21 Eyes Of Ruby.I'M ENGLISH, TRY AND ABORT ME:Lady Sovereign, charmingly snotty UK rap girl and professional smarty pants PIERRE OITMANN INTERVIEWS FOR 3VOOR12/LIMBURG. PIERRE OITMANN SOME OTHER MUSIC STUFF. LOOKS LIKE UP TO ME:Debut album by Wilburnsilver, one of the hot new bands to arise from the Scottish music scene. I did the A&R on here, so I know they're great! Buy the Wilburnsilver album! PIERRE OITMANN SIDESHIFT HARRY: ZOKA VIDEO. Well, this sure was fun making! On October 20, 2005 we shot this quirky music video to the equally quirky song "Zoka" by the Dutch band Sideshift Harry. We shot it with film student Rob Janssen, at several places in the band's hometown Roermond. Most of the shots were done at an old, out-of-use factory building, close near the inner-city. Hilarious were the scenes recorded at the local pop venue Azijnfabriek, with all band members dressed up in disco outfits. It was also entertaining watching the scenes with the low-rider bikes being filmed (near Roermond's most popular tourist attraction, according to the Germans: A designer outlet centre!). I'm actually in this video for about one or two seconds (look for the guy in the bright yellow shirt). During the outside performance parts I had to playback the song for a number of times – from a car stereo at full power! After we shot this video I rushed to Eindhoven, as I was asked to DJ at the Editors concert at the then recently re-opened Effenaar (a subsequent review in pop magazine LiveXS actually referred to "the DJ" playing Joy Division!). What a day! The video to "Zoka" was launched during a festive evening (which included karaoke) in café 't Smoesje in Roermond, on February 17, 2006. For a limited time only, the video was available on DVD (approximately fifty copies were issued). "Zoka" premiered on television that same month at a local TV-station in the province Gelderland, shortly before other stations picked it up for broadcast. On one local radio station’s hit parade the song peaked at number 5, partly as a result of the video being played frequently on TV. And now for a bit of trivia: The video’s budget was near to nothing (well, less actually!). Even the camera and the bikes were borrowed. All for free. The only things the band had to pay for were hiring the afro wigs (although they threw in a ‘free’ boa), the DV-tape and Rob’s train ticket! But the result paid off… Sideshift Harry - "Zoka" (from "The Original EP")

HELMERT JAN VAN DER SLIK CARTOON. If you ever see a racing car passing down the street with this cartoon character on the side, then it's probably Dutch Formula 3000 champ Helmert Jan van der Slik driving. In late 2003 / early 2004 I made this cartoon for him by request and HJ continues to use it on his car today. Pictures of this cartoon on HJ's racing cars can be found at www.hjvdslik.nl . Also check my MySpace photo album for some sketches of it and other pictures.
