Santanero is a rock- reggae- skaband that originates from Utrecht, The Netherlands. Theband started to take its music seriously in mid september 2006.
It took a while for the band to form into its current setting and have performed underdifferent band names such as “The left behind’s†and "In A Sentenceâ€. The music genre wasnot always clear, but leaving all these names aside the band now stands secure under onebandname: Santanero!
It all started when Timmy, Freek and Martin decided to create Music in the summer of2005. The main focus however was not to perform but to have fun in secluded practicerooms. Own material was not the main focus and the only genre that was being played wasdeafening hard rock.
Tim, whom occupied the drums was fed up not being able to lay down steady beats anddecided to trade his drumsticks for the guitar and the search for a new drummer was at theorder of the day. Via the internet the band got in touch with Aymon, a native to the Islandof Aruba and not only that but an awesome drummer.
Now that there was a well qualified drummer there was just one more ingredient that wasneeded to make the recipe complete, some nice to the ears/melodic/catchy vocals. Fortunately many times one goodthing followsanother and it appeared that Aymon got in contact with a singer that originally originatesfrom Holland but migrated to Aruba for somewhat years. Recognizing Ivo through mutualfriends and acquaintances Aymon decided to give it a go and invite him for a “jam session†.
The First meeting the band decided to go to the international equivalent of friendship, joyand well…High cholesterol…..McDonald's. From beginning to the end the meeting was nothingbut ridiculous jokes and intense laughter and it became clear. Even if it would not work outmusically, socially it was all good.
With Aymon and Ivo as new members to the band it did not take long for the Caribbeaninfluences to take its toll. The caribbean flavour started to rub off on the band andstarted producing a massive harvest of fresh ideas. Although the ideas kept rolling in,there was just one more thing that might be added to the sound that would make it sound alittle more appealing. It was time for some hot blown wind.
This “wind†was brought about by Roque Tromp. Also originating from the island of Aruba.Having experience in a well known Aruban ska/punk band 2nd thought, he was exactly the kindof help the band needed. He used to walk his own path, but now provides a melodic spiritthat has become the icing on the cake.
Because of being such a social guy, Freek didn't have enough time for the band anymore. But luckily the band didn't have to search far for a new bass player. Timmy took it uponhimselfto be the bigger man and play the bigger brother of the guitar.
Now having an open spot on stage and Aymon being afraid of monsters appearing out of theblue and stealing his drum sticks, he decided to ask a friend of his to come and fill thisspot. The protector's name is Marc Cheung, a roots reggae fanatic that knows a chord or twoand has been spotted dancing like a funky chicken at the band's previous gigs.
After securing his spot in the band, Roque wanted his former wingman from his previousband to come and rescue him from all the chicks he had been scoring the last couple of gigsand also add some low frequency vibrations to his wind. The wingman, Jean Carlos Croes, didn't have to think twice before joining
after hearing all the sick and kind of perverted stories. He's now ready to blow you all away!!
The new kid on the block is Matti, which in most of the bands' members native language means homie. Having such a cool name we decided to add him to our lineup just for the kicks and laughs (hahaha), but it seems he plays the shit out of the trumpet anyway!!
