Many claim to be Hollywood's premier DJ, which is understandable in a city powered by hype. But one glance at dj StoneRokk's impressive list of residencies will quickly put all debate to rest. His Monday nights are spent at the SBE gem AREA, His Tuesdays are occupied by the Hollywood fixture Privilege, Wednesdays find him behind the turntables at LA’s creme-de-la-creme club Les Deux, a new Thursday night has begun at the exclusive Green Door, and the week comes full circle with Saturdays back at AREA.
Any and all of the above-mentioned destinations find themselves mentioned weekly between the pages of the gossip rags, spit from the lips of your favorite E! Channel commentator, or as the background setting of the next drama unfolding on MTV's reality programming.
Of course there are other hot spots in Hollywood's vast nightlife sprawl, but guess what? dj StoneRokk has been the resident there, too, from Teddy’s to Guy’s to Mood. Needless to say, no new club opens there without a firm offer to Hollywood's official Go-To DJ.
And his reputation as such, compounded with the guaranteed delivery of a mind-blowing, multi-genre performance, has secured dj StoneRokk his weekly Friday residency at MOON inside the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, as well as monthly appearances in the nightlife meccas of San Francisco, Chicago, San Diego, and New York. His services have been garnered from everybody from Tobey Maguire to Kid Rock to George Clooney and he is a favorite of those corporate folk who lead their respective industries, such as Maxim Magazine and Chanel and Harrison & Shriftman. And his nightly escapades have been documented in publications like US Weekly, People, and W Magazine.
Born and raised in Queens New York, dj StoneRokk had caught the music bug while screening the film "Juice." And while his passion for turntables possessed much of his time, his dream was to one day become Dr Michael Stone. A few years pre-med cured him of that. Real Estate speculation followed next, with a stint at USC for Business Finance. But the burgeoning nightlife industry came calling and pulled him away from his studies and into the nightlife full time.
When not wowing the crowds at A-list events, industry hotspots, and high-profile soirees, dj StoneRokk tends to his enviable Nike Shoe collection, clocks endless hours at poker tables across the globe, and tools around Hollywood on his vintage Vespa. He is a frequent and friendly sight to anybody who has made it past a velvet rope.
Since 1992, dj StoneRokk has developed a style of mixing and matching songs from varying directions, from hip hop to rock to house to funk, creating a potpourri of related sounds, disregarding genre. And the fickle tastes of the nightlife industry has finally caught up with him. Though a cadre of new jack DJs have appeared in the recent past, all claiming to present a similar style, very few have honed the skills or finished their homework. dj StoneRokk is certainly among the small handful that epitomizes the craft of DJing, materializing each night as a euphonious display of hands-in-the-air crowd control
And dj StoneRokk has a comment for those other “1 DJs in LA”: “I’m looking down on you.”
