DJ WHITE SHADOW BIO:
In the ever-evolving nightlife industry, it is common for a DJ to be the most sought- after entertainer one day and disappear into relative obscurity the next. Over the past 13 years,
Paul Blair, AKA DJ White Shadow, has cultivated a strong following and proven himself to be a driving force in the nation’s club scene, earning a spot as one of the most prolific and respected DJs.
A celebrity favorite and high-profile event regular, White Shadow has been personally requested by
Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz, R. Kelly, Todd Oldham, Lollapalooza, Bentley, Victoria’s Secret, and
Gen Art, among others.
White Shadow’s musical style transcends boundaries and is indicative of the Midwest that he calls home -- a melting pot.
DJ White Shadow masterfully mixes all genres, fueled by hip hop undertones, an incredible presence, and his ability to connect with and engage a crowd, driving them into a frenzy.
Born in Youngstown Ohio,
DJ White Shadow’s early love of hip hop music led him to begin breakdancing with a local crew in second grade. His move to Detroit prompted his interest in and meticulous study of pioneer and visionary DJs, such as The Electrifying Mojo, The Wizard, and Mr. Gary Chandler, which led to the expansion of his repertoire to encompass funk, techno, pop and rock.
DJ White Shadow’s transition from music student and lover to professional DJ transpired in a unique way. In 1993, he was accepted in a program to study in Japan, where he befriended a local bar owner who shared his affinity for music.
DJ White Shadow earned his first residency at the Delta Market and quickly became the bar’s most popular attraction.
After more than a year in Japan,
DJ White Shadow returned to the States and immediately ran up all his credit cards buying DJ and production equipment. Setting up shop in his dorm room at Western Michigan University, he soon became the campus’ main attraction and within months, was headlining the best parties and nightclubs.
Throughout college,
DJ White Shadow produced several warmly-received techno tracks for various stateside labels under the moniker "Element 82," and began traveling both as a hip hop and techno DJ. During his travels, he headlined clubs throughout
Italy, Vienna, France, England, Switzerland, and
Germany and became part of a French collective known as
"Le Band Adhesives."
Stateside, between DJ gigs and college classes,
DJ White Shadow began producing a series of events called "The Analog Soiree," where old school artists like
Kurtis Blow, Big Daddy Kane, Nice and Smooth, RUN DMC, De La Soul and many others played live at rotating venues throughout Michigan. These parties were wildly successful and more importantly enabled White Shadow to develop relationships with many of his childhood heroes, most of whom he is still close with today.
Currently,
DJ White Shadow is traveling the country and around the world, playing gigs at hot spots in
L.A., Atlanta, New York, Miami and his home town
Chicago. He has been lauded by the press, securing features in
Spin Magazine, E! Online, Perezhilton.com, and People Magazine, as well as regular features in local Chicago press.
