My name is Mary Ann and I'm a singer in the north east of England. I have sang all kinds of music over the years including funk, blues, jazz and even folk etc and have worked in many professional bands across the country
I like to watch live bands and go to music festivals. I like all kinds of music from Rock to Blues. I enjoy reading, especially thrillers by people like Stephen King or Dean Koontz.
I've been a bit of a rock chick most of my life but I recently got into 40's and 50's music and I love it, especially the great voices of artists like Lavern Baker and Ruth Brown. I love going to the festivals and the dancing is great fun. It definately keeps you fit! I would like to form my own R&B band some day but finding the musicians is proving quite difficult.
I'm still a rock chick at heart as well. I love bands like the Foo Fighters, Incubus, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Green Day and many more..........

My Interests

Music, music and more music!! I like a bit of reading too. I like watching live bands and listening to new music. I have a guitar that I play badly. Ha ha! I like socialising with my friends down at the local pub, few games of pool etc. Sometimes head down to the local rock club for a good old mosh. I also like going to 40's/50's dances/festivals and vintage markets etc.

Music:

Bit of everything. I have very wide tastes in music. The only thing I don't like is hardcore dance music. Music should come from real instruments played by real people, not a computer! Totally into 40's & 50's music. Artists like Ruth Brown, Laverne Baker, Big Joe Turner, Louis Jordan, Smiley Lewis, Roy Brown, Janice Martin, Bill Haley, Sam Butera, Dolly Cooper, Donna Hightower, Kay Starr, Billy Holiday, Sam Cooke, Julie London, Ray Charles and so on and so on! I could be here all night! I'm not completely trapped in the past tho! I am also really into Paolo Nutini, Ray Lamontagne, Jack Johnson, James Morrison, Donavon Frankenreiter, Bedouin Soundclash, Snow Patrol, KT Tunstall, Tori Amos, Imogen Heap, Corinne Bailey Rae, Pearl Jam, The Kooks, The Feeling, The Automatic, The Editors, Hard Fi , Foo Fighters, QOTSA, Soundgarden, Incubus, Green Day, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Rage Aginst The Machine, Audioslave, Deftones, Stone Temple Pilots, Tom Waits, Ben Folds Five, Jeff Buckley, I could go on cos there are loads of bands/singers I love but there are too many to list! As you can see, my tastes are pretty diverse!

Movies:

Suppose thrillers or horrors are my favourite and old films but as you'll see in my faves, I like anything really. Some favourites include most Hammer House films, Amityville, Seven, Snatch, Event Horizon, Lost Boys, Alien, Shawshank Redemption, Taxi Driver, Godfather 1 & 2, Gone With The Wind, Some Like It Hot, American Graffiti, Rocky Horror, Withnail & I, LOTR, The Goonies and Breakfast Club. Oh and someone reminded me about Stand By Me the other night too! Not really seen many new ones recently. Love anything starring Johnny Depp. Love Doris Day, Audrey Hepburn and Katherine Hepburn films too.

Television:

Favourite shows at the mo are Lost, Ghostwhisperer, Haunted, CSI, Scrubs, My Name Is Earl and Supernatural. Just recently got into Greys Anatomy too. Really wanna check out Heros but I don't have Sky! :-(

Books:

Conspiracy theories, thrillers, vampire or supernatural stories. Stephen King, Dean Koontz, James Herbert, Ann Rice etc. Basically any book that challenges my brain. I'm definately not a Mills & Boon type of girl! Just finished 'The Da Vinci Code' and currently reading Stephen Kings 'Dark Tower Series'. Up to book 4 at the mo. Recently read some good books based on the chinese culture in early 20th Century, 'Bonesetters Daughter' and 'The Binding Chair'. Enjoyed both and looking for more of the same.

Heroes:

There are too many to list all the people I admire and respect.

A few to mention would be Ruth Brown, Janice Martin, Lavern Baker, Etta James, Billy Holiday, Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke and Ray Charles! Oh! Can't forget to mention Dave Grohl and also Tori Amos!
