The Surgeons

31 years of Penzance Punk

About Me

MyGen Profile GeneratorThe Surgeons were formed in 1980, by Pete kliskey, who was a member of Penzance's first punk rock band, The Cramp in 1977 (see Humphry Davy 1977 Blog Review). Having not played since 1984 we were coaxed out of retirement by Mike Sagar Fenton to appear at The Golowan Festival's 30 years of punk celebration event at The Acorn on the 20th of June 2007, supporting The Eyelids. We were then asked to support The Damned at Falmouth Pavilions in August, where we again played with The Eyelids. Our third gig of the year was back at The Acorn, playing with I Pony and The Basics. We are old and bald (well 2 of us) but thankfully extraordinarily immature and are currently recording a cd with Axe Gimp Stringer Producer Man, which should be ready for release by May. We would recommend anyone reading this to spend the evening watching James Stewart in Harvey.
Review Of Damned Gig 17/08/07 By Cornish Live Gig Review - www.cornishlivegigreview.com
From Penzance they came, from the ashes of the town..s first punk band (The Cramp), from Russia with lo... (hang on, that..s not right). Ahh yes, The Surgeons - led by that ex-Cramp (Penzance version), Pete Kliskey on guitar and vocals have been around since 1980. Although officially sleeping since 1984 due to mental illness and errands that needed running, the band did reform recently for a punk festival in June and obviously enjoyed themselves enough to take on a few more dates including tonight. With drumming from the unlikely named Jimmy Jewell and his brother Mike Kliskey on the bass, Pete led the band through a powerful and professional set of punk material that would easily stand up against anything by the The Clash/Pistols. Claiming to be influenced easily, but more specifically by Joe Strummer, George Orwell and Ray Mears shows the mature sense of humour that we..re dealing with when it comes to The Surgeons, but when it comes to the music, you can bet they mean it maaan! With the state of the NHS these days, the need to see The Surgeons asap is more important than ever before! www.myspace.com/penzancesurgeons
