About Me

Second Chance Pet Adoptions was founded in 1989 in Raleigh, North Carolina. We are a volunteer-driven, non-profit No-Kill animal shelter. Our mission is to rescue abandoned and homeless cats and dogs, provide them with excellent care and carefully match each with the best home to ensure a lifetime of safety, love and companionship. No animals are ever euthanized to make room for more animals. Because of your support and the support of others like you, Second Chance touched the lives of nearly 900 abandoned and homeless pets in 2006.

Be sure to check out calendar for upcoming events and browse our pics to see some of the wonderful animals available for adoption.

What's Happening:

In 2007, we expect to rescue, care for, and adopt out nearly 1,000 cats and dogs. Medical costs continue to increase and we simply cannot successfully fulfill our mission without your support. Therefore, we ask that you again open your hearts to those animals needing your help and make a springtime donation to Second Chance.
This year we are excited to offer you many ways in which you can help the animals. We always welcome a donation, no matter how small, to our general fund, which helps pay for all of Second Chance’s expenses. In addition:
You can donate to the "Peggy Fund", named after a cat that came to Second Chance needing her leg amputated, which helps pay for extraordinary medical care for those animals needing more than “routine” treatment.
You can donate to the "Chadwick Fund", which is used to provide care for those animals that come to Second Chance after their owner passes away.
You can also “Sponsor A Pet” for yourself or as a gift. The recipient will receive information about a specific cat or dog that your donation helps care for.
Please click the button below to make your 100% tax deductible donations. A heartfelt THANK YOU from the animals of Second Chance!

The Rescuer’s Creed
I promise I will take your unwanted animals.
I will heal their wounds, their, diseases, and their broken bones.
I will give them the medical attention they need and deserve.
I will nurture their starvation and give them a warm place to sleep.
I will spay and neuter them and vaccinate them against the diseases that can harm them.
I will care for them and honor them.
I will buy them blankets, balls, and toys, and teach them to play.
I will speak softly to them.
I will try to teach them not to cry, not to fear, and not to hate.
I will whisper sweet, kind, gentle words into their ears, while gently trying to stroke away their fear, their pain, and their scars.
I will face their emotional scars and give them time to overcome them.
I will socialize them, potty train them, show them dignity, and stroke their fur,
But most of all, I will teach them Love.
And if they have endured too much, I will walk them over the Rainbow Bridge.

Rescuer's Prayer
Now I lay me down to rest
I pray my soul can stand this test
Of watching critters lose their homes
While owners gripe and cry and moan
I long for strength of spirit that
They'll find a loving home again
Where they will know a loving heart
I can't do much, but it's a start
And spare me from the owner's pleas
About the baby's allergies
Or how they're moving out of state
Or spitefulness 'tween cat and mate
Please keep me sane while dealing with
The woman who bought as a gift
A wriggling tiny ball of fluff
That now is playing way too rough
Remind me I should bite my lip
When confronted with "he grew too quick"
"I didn't know he'd get so large"
"He seems to think that he's in charge"
Protect my heart when I hear them say
"I think we'll breed our cat one day"
Sometimes I think it'll break in two
Each day brings trials harsh and new
And if I die before I wake
I pray one hopeless soul you'll take,
My tears are gone, my faith is bare
Lord, please hear my rescue prayer

There are 45 cats and dogs for every person born. Americans spend MILLIONS of dollars to round-up, house, feed, euthanize and dispose of homeless pets EACH YEAR!
Please spay or neuter your pet!

Animal Rescue Site needs clicks!

Hi, all you animal lovers. This is pretty simple… Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals.
It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on 'feed an animal in need' for free. This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.! Bookmark this site, and click once a day!
