Semper Fidelis Tyrannosaurus!

About Me

The noise is a Columbia Based Rock band that has been recording and performing music since 2003.
Their music has been called everything from "Proto-Metal' to "A Glaze of Pop." The prefer to think of it as "Melodic Rock," getting a thrill out of making audiences move to fast, soaring riffage.
The noise was never planned as a live band. When dual guitarists Mills Estes and Justin Purdy's band Audinaut dissolved and each moved from their hometown of Myrtle Beach, it seemed like that would pretty much be the end of the story. Soon after, though, a series of marathon weekend recording sessions began to take place in Columbia, SC. With Purdy Commuting in and Estes teaming up with Sound Engineering Cohort Alex Mabrey, hours of music would be cooked up on the spot and recorded (usually over 36 hour cram sessions.) After picking a name at random out of an audio textbook, the project was christened "the noise."
It wasn't until the Summer of 2005 that Mabrey, then performing in the Columbia Alt band Juicebox, began testing out his own material with drummer Jonathan Crufield after practice. It wasn't long before "The Crut" was invited to jam with Purdy and Estes as well, and soon after that Mabrey's multinstrumental psycho filmmaker roommate Mike Coleman (formerly of Mandible) wandered downstairs to flesh out the group's live sound and match the wall of guitars from their studio work.
As a group, the band soon began moonlighting as the "Metal Karaoke" band at local rock venue The new Brookland Tavern. After learing over 50 covers and enduring many a night of out of key drunken renditions of "Dead or Alive" and "Don't Stop Beleivin," the band took a hiatus to refocus and record. They turned their house into a studio, tried a million different drum sounds, traded several microphones and fixed even more guitars and cables.
The result ended up being 2007's hafler e.p., eight tracks of prime noise. They returned to the stage this Spring with new songs, a more focused sound, and a plan to take over the world. While they may not have planned to be a live band, the group's shows have steadily shown their knack for it. The noise has already begun work on a live DVD ep for the summer, focusing on their energetic stage show, while a possible third cd release may be ready by the fall.
