Voodoo Guru (The Original)

Voodoo Guru is a “Power Duo” based out of Columbia, SC. This duo came together in April of 2006 to write new material and come to form what can only be called Voodoo Guru. The band was brought to life when Guitarist, Sam Outen out of Columbia, SC approached Drummer, Webb Ostrander from Florence, SC with an idea for a new project that will hopefully help shape the future of the underground rock scene. Sam and Webb have played together previously, doing mostly acoustic music in small venues around the Columbia area, but both pursued other avenues, until reforming as Voodoo Guru.This duo has spent the last year and a half writing songs and performing their music in and around Columbia. These two play an intense mixture of rock and blues with a touch of funky overtones. Their music is an accumulation of riff heavy guitar, hard hitting drums and passionate lyrics that leave enough room for interpretation. With melodies that evolve from head nodding to neck breaking they take their listeners on a “musical rollercoaster” of highs and lows.With influences ranging from the Delta Blues to Seattle Rock, this band offers something for just about any listener. Voodoo Guru has a very original sound, but its intriguing melodies and steady rhythms make it feel familiar to its listeners. Their genre would probably be best defined as; Rock/Alternative/Blues. Their diverse set list includes songs with influences from jazz, blues, punk, metal, classic rock and alternative.
