Akari KalaiThere is nothing you could say to Akari to put out the fire in her
soul. Her mysterious and exotic look is utterly intriguing. Like a
venus fly trap she pulls you toward her, but beware, this neo feminist
will not hesitate to kick you in the balls, or more appropriately
execute a flying crane kick to your face with such elegance and
perfection if you blink it might be missed. In pain and wondering if
anyone caught the license plate of the 18 wheeler that just knocked
you over, your only desire will be for more. The girl can barely be
contained on any format. Her music is powerful and refreshing. Like
the true meaning of her name she is a bright shining light, emerging
from dark ravine of talentless acts and pieced together careers.2 words to describe her: sexy and edgy and the same can be said for
her music. " It's hip hop with rock influence. I'll hear a hard hip
hop beat and add live drums and some sick lead guitar." Akari's
buttery voice combined with these tracks creates an addicting
contrast.Akari is the apple that hasn't fallen far from the tree. The
Vancouver, British Columbia native is no stranger to music or stage
performance. She grew up in a musical family and at age 3, Akari would
sing while her brother played the guitar. Akari's parents recognized
her talent and she began taking formal dance lessons and studying
classical and popular music at five years old. Akari studied ballet,
jazz, hip-hop dance and piano. Akari creatively combined her love of
dance with Kung Fu and practiced the martial arts each day in her
ballet tutu. After playing the lead in several high school stage productions and
exhibiting her musical prowess in the school band, Akari went to the
Actors Working Academy in Vancouver which led her to appear in several
major movie productions, During this time she sang background vocals
for Riley Inge of the Temptations and Various local talents in
Vancouver. Akari's beauty, poise and natural stage presence landed her
one of only six modeling positions with the Tommy Hilfiger National
Tour and a three-year recurring modeling spot with Meoshe at the
"MAGIC" show in Las Vegas, Nevada. Akari Kalai was also pictured in
the March 2003 issue of Maxim magazine.Akari worked as a dancer with a local rap group opening for sean
"Puffy" Combs at Seattle's Kube 93.3 Summer Jam concert. Puffy's road
manager approached Akari about auditioning for New York based R&B
group. Akari earned her position in the group formed by producers
Timbaland and Jimmy Douglas (Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Missy Elliot),
but due to a lack of commitment to superstardom by other group
members, the project fell apart. Timbaland and Jimmy Douglas
recognized Akari as a shining star and encouraged her to pursue her
dreams as a solo artist.Following her dreams, Akari moved to New York on her own. Not letting
anything stand in her way Akari fought her way through many obstacles.
Teaming up with producers Chris Kelly and Willie Bum Bum (Mario
Winans, Pink, Boys to Men) she recorded her first single "Puppy Dog"
written by Pink. ). "It was during this time that I realized that my
musical styling had evolved.
I grew up listening to everything from Madonna and Micheal to Biggie
and Jay-Z. I am inspired by artists like Pink and Evanescence who's
I-don't-give-a-shit attitudes remind me so much of myself. I love
watching a great live performance like Janet Jackson who's fusion of
dancing/singing and acting blows me away and inspires me to be the
best. "Most recently she has recorded vocals for various acts such as Pretty
Ricky(Atlantic Records) and Yo Gotti ( TVT Records), along with
singing backup for Brooke Hogan. She has also worked with Hit
producers and writers Scott Storch, Pooh Bear, Cherokee(Arista) and
continues to work with Chris Kelly and other artists to develop her
unique sound in the pursuit of a recording deal.
"I know I am in this game of hurry-up-and-wait, but I am ready for the
world, just have my Manley Gold Reference Mic ready in the booth", she
laughs.

.. "Mixtape Awards, pop culture and more at the 2nd Annual Latin Urban Mix set for March 10, 2007
By
After an astounding and great turnout at last year’s Latin Urban Mix debut, the Creative Media Group is dotting its I’s and crossing its T’s in preparation for this year’s (2007) much-anticipated one-day affair. DJs, musicians, fashion designers, photographers, entrepreneurs and artists (in all sense of the word) will converge in this given amenity while simultaneously highlighting their individual art.
The appropriately-named Latin Urban Mix calls for the opportunity to demonstrate how influential the Latin market has been to mainstream by ‘mixing’ five key elements of popular culture and entertainment: art, fashion, music, media and entrepreneurship. In addition, the Mix establishes a relevant opening for the artists to assist each other and collaborate in their future endeavors (a graphics artist designing a DJ’s album cover, a fashion designer sponsoring for a musician, a photographer shooting a model’s portfolio). A clear advantage for everyone attending, the occasion, originally created by Creative Media Group CEO Kevin “Pills†Montano, also opens the door for many newcomers to become acquainted with the world’s most exciting, yet demanding, market.
Last year’s Mix awarded and recognized well-accomplished DJs Camilo, Tony Touch, Kazzanova, Prostyle and Sama for their success in bringing Latino music, primarily reggaeton, to the forefront and, consequently, having the genre accepted into music mainstream. Latin Urban Mix 2007 will award the Latin urban DJs for giving the opportunity to artists to have their music heard. The streets is where it all starts, so why not recognize those who continuously feed them with new sounds. Anyone can vote for their favorites at www.LatinUrbanMixx.com.
With over 450 associates from LA, Chicago, Louisiana, Boston, Miami, New York, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, heavy-duty sponsors and internationally-known artists, producers and DJs (Magic Juan, Boy Wonder, Voltio, Tego Calderon, DJ Nelson) at last year’s Mix, this year’s event is expected to ring in twice as many hungry industry majors and minors. Expected DJs to attend include Hot 97’s DJ Enuff and DJCamilo, La Mega’s DJ Lobo, La Kalle’s DJ Kazzanova, DJ Precise, DJ Spin One and DJ Prostyle, DJ Tony Touch, Latino’s DJ Eddie One, DJ Willie, DJ Lando 1, DJ Jamsha, DJ Sincero, DJ Double R, DJ Quick and mun2’s Frankie Needles.
The Mix’s 2007 itinerary includes an art exhibition, an urban sneaker display, an artist listening lounge, an entrepreneur and DJ panel and a fashion show, all leading up to the Mixtape Awards recognition dinner, held as the closing event during evening hours. An afterparty, spot to be determined, will follow.
The Latin Urban Mix 2007 will be held on March 10, 2007 at the widely-recognized Albion Hotel in the heart of South Beach, Miami’s Art Deco district.
The Creative Media Group, led by Kevin Montano, strives to provide strong relationships between all aspects of the urban market nationwide. Through various methods of promotion, marketing and management, it works to emphasize the abilities and success of Latino culture, whether it be in music, art, fashion or business.

SALAZAR BIO
During a time when urban Latin music is constantly evolving, it takes an artist of extraordinary talent to effectively break barriers and set a new standard for Latin Hip Hop. Salazar’s music not only possesses commanding and intoxicating beats, but has an original and advanced lyrical style that few others have been able to match. When one listens to Salazar’s flow, it is clear he speaks from the heart and soul, receiving the attention and respect of both female and male listeners alike.Jose Pablo Salazar, a.k.a. SALAZAR, was born in Miami, Florida in 1979. The son of a professional Cuban baseball player who also wrote music and poetry, Salazar’s initial childhood dream was to play professional baseball. After being exposed to musicians and the art of expression through writing, Salazar developed a deep interest and love for music. He began rapping at the age of 17 and formed A.O.D (Age Of Destruction) while he was still in high school. Realizing music was his life project; he began associating with professional artists such as Trick Daddy and Timbaland. His style unexpectedly flipped from English to Spanish on a verse written just to mess around. As if by fate, it all seemed to fit together. As he continued to pursue his artist development, Salazar was noticed by several top A&Rs with Sony Latino in Miami. Salazar was selected to be a part of a compilation Spanish hip-hop album to debut in the U.S (April 26, 2005). The project was titled Syndicato and was composed of a collaboration of 7 artists, each with a distinct style. Since his experience with Syndicato, Salazar has chosen to pursue his career as a solo artist, performing throughout South Florida. He caught the attention of Strictly Business Records, a local independent label, receiving much recognition in the South Florida area. Salazar is currently seeking to receive international attention and target the Hispanic community as a whole.Salazar’s goal is to revolutionize Latin music by bringing hip-hop to the Spanish community the way it is heard in English. With a powerful voice and street-based lyrics, Salazar’s music portrays the realistic experiences of a young first generation Cuban-American living in the United States. His music has the ability to touch the entire span of Hispanics in the U.S. by exploring a wide range of topics from culture, religion, passion, the search for identity, and simply “living life as Latino“. In a period where music consumers search for answers, Salazar delivers truth to a snowballing urban Spanish community that wont be denied. Salazar is determined to take Spanish hip-hop to the next level, “I want people to remember me for changing the way Hispanics express themselves musically“.Check out Salazar’s Music at "http://www.myspace.com/salazar305"
