MANGU

Dominican native, Mangu now living in France is making an evolution of his personal style. Respected multilingual Artist, got his start in Miami and received major attention for his live performance and fresh mix of urban and Caribbean Latino vibe .In 1992, long before Reggaeton, became popular Mangu was already mixing Latino-American flavor with West Indies rythems.Mangus formula started with Jamaican artist Bigga and Papa San when he featured on the singles, Fly Like An Eagle remix (Steve Miller) and Sealed With A Kiss produced by miami dj Felix Sama. It was the beginning of the spanish reggae scene in Miami . Thats how he got the attention of producer Joe Galdo (Miami sound Machine, Anita Ward) and Chris Blackwell (Island Records).The results of their first recording sessions, led to the single and video by Hype Williams "La Playa" featuring legendary Cuban pianist Paquito Hechavaria. After the success of "La Playa" Mangu released his first full length self entitled album.The album featured support from musical giants like Johnny Pacheco, Bennie Man, Betty Wright, Carlton Coffey ( Inner Circle ) The single Calle Luna Calle Sol and the success of the album gave Mangu the opportunity to perform not only in the states but latin America and Europe. He also recieved the RFI (Radio France International) discovery artist of the year award for his album Mangu.Touring Europe and playing at events like the Roskilde, the Paleo Festival ,the Open Air St Gallen ,Francofolies De La Rochelle and the Festival Des Vieilles Charrues gave Mangu the opportunity to meet lots of musicians and work with lots of great people. For his second release Mangu relocated to France. He recently signed an album deal with French indie label Naive and released his second album Mi Familia. For his second release produced by Hench(Brandy,Monica, Joe) and co-produced Mangu he chose a less traditional sound and went more urban.With the help of Dexter Simmons(Outcast,Andre 3000) the new album is a blend of Mangu's latin lingo in a New School way. Mi Familia is part two into the musical journey of Mangu. He is currently on tour in Europe promoting the new album performing clubs ,showcases and festivals.
