About Me

I have set this site up for lovers of Genesis and its inspired...Marillion, Porcupine Tree etc...Long may the good music live GENESIS BIOG>>>>>>> Genesis had its roots in the Garden Wall, which formed in 1965 with members Peter Gabriel (vocals), Tony Banks (keyboards) and Chris Stewart (drums), all students at the Charterhouse school. Classmates Anthony Philips (guitar/vocals) and Mike Rutherford (bass/guitar/vocals) from the Anon joined and in 1967 they sent a demo to Charterhouse alum Jonathan King at Decca Records. King named the group Genesis and they released two singles "The Silent Sun" and "A Winter's Tale".In 1969, Genesis released a debut album, From Genesis To Revelation (with new drummer John Silver), to little success. They moved to Charisma Records in 1970 and Trespass was released, also to little success. Following the release of Trespass, Phillips and Mayhew left and were replaced by Steve Hackett and Phil Collins. Another commercial failure, 1971's Nursery Cryme was released, but the follow up, Foxtrot, made it into the UK Top 20. Genesis continued to have success with Selling England By The Pound and The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.Peter Gabriel left in 1975 to pursue a hugely successful solo career. Phil Collins replaced Gabriel on vocals, as well as continuing to be the drummer for the group. The first Collins led album, A Trick Of The Tail, turned out to be their most successful to date and Wind And Wuthering continued that success. Steve Hackett left in 1977, and the band continued as a trio. 1978's And Then There Were Three had a softer, more commercial sound than their previous progressive rock albums and it was their first gold album. Genesis continued to have mainstream success into the 80's with Duke, Abacab and Genesis. In 1986 they had the biggest album of their career with the huge Invisible Touch, which spawned five US Top 5 hits. Throughout the 80's, Phil Collins pursued a hugely successful solo career and Mike Rutherford had a number of hits with his band Mike + the Mechanics.Genesis didn't follow up Invisible Touch until 1991's We Can't Dance, and although it was another hit, Collins left to focus on solo albums. Banks and Rutherford carried on using the Genesis name for one more album with new singer Ray Wilson, 1997's Calling All Stations. It was a commercial and critical dud and the remaining Genesis members split. In 2006 the band has decided to reform to play a series of concerts in 2007. No Plans as yet for any recorded material. Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett will not be performing with the band as far as I know??

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Fellow Genesis freaks around the world.Lyrics Which Genesis member are you?
You are Peter Gabriel, a master of Prog. You left Genesis to pursue a solo career, and you haven't disappointed. You were lead singer in the band from 1966 until 1975, in which you sang on From Genesis to Revelation, Trespass, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound, and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Plus, you sure know how to make a reverse mohawk look good.
