Influences: Great Books, The Radio, My Fathers Record Collection, and Bass Players like James Jamerson, Carole Kaye, Paul Mc Cartney, Jim Fielder, Ronnie Wood, Jack Bruce, Noel Redding, Greg Lake, John Paul Jones,
Greg Ridley, David Brown, Larry Graham, Chris Squire, and of course, John Entwhistle......I like melodic bass players. These are a few of the people who made me want to be a bass player, thumping away at the heart of the matter...... There are also bassists like Jaco, Duck Dunn, Ron Carter, Ray Brown, Steve Rodby, and legends like James Brown, Mose Allison , Ray Charles, etc, etc...... My favorites on guitar, are Jeff Beck, David Gilmour, Paco De Lucia, Pat Metheny, and scores of other great musicians.... My biggest influence is my grand father, Herman Schuster, who at one time played piano for Rudy Valee back in the 1920s. Now he had some road stories!! ............................
I started playing guitar in the 9th grade and among my friends there were five guitarists, two drummers but no bassist. One day, I took a used Fender bass down from a wall in an electronics shop and was immediately intrigued with the instrument. The bass felt massive and powerful, and being tall it felt like a big Stratocaster. It was then that I realized the bass was the thunder behind the music and provided the beat that you move to. From that moment on I set out to shake everywhere I played.

HERE IS WHAT PEOPLE THOUGHT OF NEW ENGLAND'S PERFORMANCE AT LAST YEAR'S MUSIC FOR MIDDLESEX SHOW!!!
New England stepped onstage for the first time in a few years, but there wasnt any shakiness evident once they blasted into the first number. Then the smiles broke out and the sheer pleasure of performing together again took over. From that moment on, the only depressing thing about the set was that it had to end so soon! More please!

" My friends in the band New England and I go way back, and it appears they have successfully negotiated time travel. In seeing their reunion performance at last year's Music for Middlesex [ PH Productions], I realized time travel, time warps or worm holes in space could be the only way to explain how these guys look and sound as if no time had passed at all since we last cavorted. Well done, lads. "

The band "New England" reunion performance at the Music for Middlesex 3 benefit far surpassed any ones' expectations that evening. For me it was the tightest, right on, rock-n-roll set I've ever heard. Jimmy, John, Hirsh and Gary catapulted you back in time with such force and energy that you actually were watching "New England" as if they were still at the height of their career. To be honest these guys can put younger men to shame and did. Love them, Love them, Love them!

I remember seeing, feeling the electricity in the air at that New England show. Powerful, very powerful. John & Jimmy executed precision like I hadn't heard in years. Hirsh played with abandon that was inspiring beyond words. And once again Gary had the best Rock Bass sound with his unmistakable perfect intonation. They were the best band in the world that night........by far !

New England was on fire as they blew the amps and smoked the stage last week at the '05 Music For Middlesex May Performance. No younger or older band had anything on them this night! They Rocked!!!!!

" I was blown away watching them last year in Middlesex. I remember hearing "Don't Ever Wanna Lose Ya" on the radio when I was 18, and to see them play it live was simply amazing. The band was tight and the energy was awesome. I can't wait to see them again this year!"

...It was almost like a religous experience. One of the best nights of my life. The band was incredible and the evening was magical. They stole the show. I flew cross country to see it and will do it again. If you love good rock and roll,New England in concert is a show that should not be missed for anything.

NEW ENGLAND C.D. REVIEWS
FIVE STARS..Superb record, start to finish
You are not likely to hear a more catchy, well written album than this. Equally as heavy as Foreigner, Journey, Styx etc., New England's debut is actually far better than most, if not all of the offerings released by their "then" contempories. To say this is a VERY likeable album has to be the understatement of the year. Excellent remastering as well.

FIVE STARS..Outstanding
When I first heard this album back in 1980 I thought these guys were great. They had such awesome songs for the time. It really inspired me in my own song writing. It really is a shame that they couldn't have gone on to greater success. They had a chemistry together that is very rare. This album really needs to be checked out.

FIVE STARS..UNDERRATED BAND
probably way ahead of their time for the time period of 1979-81.actually all 3of their albums boast some great songs , but this one had the most exposure due to the fact that DON'T EVER WANNA LOSA YA went top 40. PAUL STANLEY helped produce this one with MIKE STONE.lead guitarist and vocalist JOHN FANNON wrote and arranged all the songs here . production value is top notch. these guys were actually with the same management co. as KISS and even opened up for them on the DYNASTY tour.wish they would put out some new material.

Alcatrazz No Parole From Rock And Roll - The Album That Defined A Genre (Five Stars)While metal and progressive music enthusiasts were busy trying to figure outs Rush's change in direction in the early 80s, Alcatrazz emerged redefining the landscape and forever changing the course of the river. Understated and underrated in a genre where credit is a bit disproportionate when it comes to recognizing its founding fathers. The first Alcatrazz album is a defining example as the birthplace of progressive metal music. When I listen to bands like Dream Theater, it's the influence of Alcatrazz and their first two studio albums that resonates the most... Cybersum iTunes 2007
Alcatrazz Was A Band Ahead Of Its Time - Signed to Capitol Records, the group already featured some rock and roll luminaries including Graham Bonnet from Rainbow, Jimmy Waldo & Gary Shea from New England, and Jan Uvena from Alice Cooper. The group enlisted a then unknown guitarist named
Yngwie Malmsteen. The group toured the world & scored gold albums.
Malmsteen later went solo & the group tapped ex Frank Zappa guitarist Steve Vai to play lead guitar & another hero was born. The Best Of Alcatrazz shows off a great band, and the early work of two legends of hard rock guitar.... CD Baby 2007
Critically Acclaimed Band of the Mid-Eighties with The Big Rock Tone -The perfect collection of recordings from the critically acclaimed mid-80's rock band Alcatrazz offering up a clinic in Guitar Virtuosity from Yngwie and Steve Vai. Quintessential hard rock vocals from Graham Bonnett, solid bass and keyboards support from former New England members Gary Shea and Jimmy Waldo, and Jan Uvena formerly with The Alice Cooper Band, holding it all together on drums, driving it home. A must have for the archives! ....Mike Burns CD Baby 2007
Tasteful Guitar Solos -This is a great example of some of Steve Vai..s and Yngwie Malmsteen..s most tasteful guitar solos. What a great band. Not only
the two most influential guitarists since Van Halen, but an awesome rhythm section in Gary Shea, Jimmy Waldo, and Jan Uvena!....Wiliam Hawes CD Baby 2007
Far Ahead Of The Curve Of Great Mucianship -This CD truly spotlights an incredible group that was way ahead of the curve - These guys were definately the Yardbirds of the 80..s. Where else could you find the talent of this caliber all on the same CD?....Andy Duncan CD Baby 2007
