...as a child I frequently listened to music. My parents listened to artists such as Nat King Cole ,The Ink Spots , Connie Francis ,Jerry Vale, Dino etc. I can remember going to the Record Shop with my Mom and she started buying 45..s by Elvis ,Freddie Cannon,The Everly Bros,Fats Domino,Danny and the Juniors and other performers that we would see on American Bandstand . Eventually my parents encouraged me to learn to play guitar....hmmm....Chet Atkins maybe .Well...The British Invasion blew that right out of the water , I suddenly had a musical awakening of sorts. I started teaching myself the songs I liked on the radio . At that time we lived in a two family house above my Grandmother . She had a big old Crosley Hi-Fi System and whenever she had that thing on the bass would rumble through the floor, I was captivated by the sound...needless to say I traded the guitar for a bass. I began to play in bands with my schoolmates and by the time I got out of high School ,I was hooked. My musical tastes changed from the West Coast sound bands to the next wave of British bands. One of my favorite bands to play in was ..Autumn Stone.. heavily influenced by Deep Purple, The Kinks, and Ten Years After . That band featured the vocal talent of Frank Dimino , who went on sing for ..Angel... I spent some time working on an original project with guitarist/composer John Tata....Steve Riley (LA Guns) was my rhythm counterpart in that outfit. I spent the next few+ years playing throughout
The East Coast and Canada with The Beams playing High Energy Hard Rock . We had some very serious interest from Columbia Records, but the group disbanded prior to signing . I played with three super talented drummers in that band : Hirsh Gardner(New England)..I learned from Hirsh how to play with the drummer as a team..thanks Hirsh!! Nelson Williams (Boystown).... if you closed your eyes you thought you were playing with Neal Pert doing an Ian Paice imitation and Joe Marino (Reddy Teddy ) ...I'm convinced there was more than one Keith Moon . There was only one person meant to play guitar in that band... Kent Pearson (Buck , Jon Butcher Axis) was kidnapped from down south ...along with his Strat,Marshall and Echo-Plex . After The Beams demise , I spent some time working on a heavy trio band with Nelson Williams and guitarist John Kalishes(Susan, Ben Orr Band)before moving to NYC to play with a band called " A ".. . I returned to Boston and while searching for a new project......I took a little break( 15 years ?? ) and focused on being a Dad and Husband. A few years back a friend convinced me go play with some local blues players that were looking for a bass player and I was hooked all over again . I had the opportunity to play again with former Beams-mate Kent Pearson to play Blues this time around in East Coast Jam before his return to the south. The last couple of years I've been playing with Guitar Mikey and the Realthing .This has been my most enjoyable musical experience as of yet. I recently visited Clarksdale MS to play with GM&RT at the Juke Joint Fest 2007 and Morgan Freeman's Ground Zero Blues Club.. southern hospitality ...Ah yes . I've also been sharing the low end duties for the band ..Drivin' Blind .. with my Brother of the Bass : Ron Belben ....featuring Steve Dineen(Guitar/Vocals)and Mark "Sparky" Sandler(Drums) and filling in for bass players in various local bands....I'm always interested in new opporunities.
