About Me

I started learning and playing music when I was six years old, and have been so now for nearly 40 years. It has been the primary focus of my life. I started on piano, taking lessons for several years. Then, I began playing trumpet in the school band. I had many accomplishments and awards for trumpet in my school years, and took lessons from Paul Hilgeman of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. I began writing my own songs in high school, around 1977. At that same time, I took up playing bass and singing with a good friend and guitarist, Mike Ginsberg. In 1979, I moved from Beech Grove, IN, a suburb of Indianapolis, to Boston, MA to attend Berklee College of Music, which I did for two years, majoring in trumpet performance, and studying with Jeff Stout, and Glenn MacDonald. I have played actively in bands of many different genres, since around 1975. During and after Berklee, I was primarily a lead vocalist, and keyboardist. I began songwriting more seriously at that time. I've had my own original band, Mirage, in the Boston area in the mid-80's, in which I wrote all of the material, in the progressive rock vein. I've also played classical, jazz, big band, Classic Rock, R&B, Alternative, Pop, Soul/Funk, and presently, Southern rock, with the band, Stilburnin. I have toured and played all over New England, with bands such as Equinox/Dionysus, Mirage, Two Fisted Tales, The Robert A. Band, Nextz, DHL, Cousin Basil, Soul Ambition, and now, Stilburnin. I continue to do live shows in MA, RI, and NH, as well as developing more original material.
