About Me

Scott Rath was born in the shadow of the 60's and grew up immersed in all sorts of music of that period. Something he can say he did and almost no one else did was see Duane Allman play live with Derek and the Dominos. Duane only played twice live with them, in Jacksonville and in Syracuse New York. Scott did not see him in Jacksonville. Many years later Scott was able to play Duanes Les Paul when he met the Allmans original road manager Twiggs who at that time owned the guitar. Quite thrilling. He grew up listening to those "British white guys who played the blues" and a couple of Irish gentlemen also. A love for Bakersfield country music also was discovered by accident to say the least. Scott belonged to the Boston band "Zachariah" and during this period and a few years after that opened for almost every guitar heavy act that came through the northeast and New England. Other highlights found Scott playing in a band with former Cream drummer and legend Ginger Baker in a band dubiously called "Ginger Baker and Friends" Included at various times were many other musicians of legendary status including Tim Bogart, Alan White, Buddy Miles and a bunch of other guys. A highlight in Scott's career has to be his brief (very brief) stint playing with Warren Zevon who had inspired Scott to write his own songs when his first album came out. He won the Dove award for "Country Recorded Song of the Year" In 1996 and the Muzak version of the song can still be heard on elevators and phones all over the world today. (including Slovenia) Today he is living outside Nashville writting and playing daily. His sense of humor has remained intact. He is currently at work on his first novel, working title either "Should Have Been Guitar Hero" or "I learned to play the blues at an all male catholic high school"I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)

Influences: Wow, influences..... where do I start, Ray Davies, Rory Gallagher, Gram Parsons (into him at the beginning, way before all the other Grampires) Duane Allman, Jeff Beck, Warren Zevon, Gary Moore, Paul Kossoff (oh that vibrato) Free, Dave Davies, The Rolling Stones (Brian and Mick era, sorry Ronnie) Merle Haggard, Jackson Browne, Eric Clapton, The Allman Brothers Band, Jimmy Page, Steve Earle, All the Great West Coast Pedal Steel Guitar Players, David Lyndley, Zorro, Seth Pappas, D.B. Faulkner, Ronnie Van Zandt, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Leslie West, Bruce Springsteen Jimi Hendrix, Warren Haynes,The Kinks,The Yardbyrds, The Birds, Did I say the Kinks? Ry Cooder, Hughie Thomasson, Al Perkins, Sneaky Pete, Early Elton John, The Faces, Ronnie Wood (the Faces era) Ronnie Lane, Jim Morrison, The Doors, Lowell George, Otis Redding, Emmylou Harris, Rodney Crowell, Janis Joplin, Albert Lee, Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, Led Zepplin. And of course Dylan.
Sounds Like: Well that depndeds on what genre I am playing in. I like to think my guitar playing comes from the blues with added chromatic scales and a slight bit of basic rawness. I learned from the the English guys and especially Rory Gallagher, Gary Moore and Jeff Beck. Throw that in with a voice that sometimes sounds like Paul Rodgers or Don Henley on a really bad night (wishful thinking) or maybe one that can best be described as sometimes pitch challenged, and songs influenced by Ray Davies and Warren Zevon and throw a little country rock flavor in there and maybe you have an idea. I think I will name my style of music RAGUM. There I invented a genre.
