The Don of Turk Street

About Me

Dax burst onto the Bay Area music scene in 1999, vjing at the first ESDJCO Invitational featuring Mark Grant. Combining his artistic sensibilities and technological know-how, he quickly ranked among the most sought-after vjs in the U.S.
Inspired by equal parts science fiction, anime and the alternative community of Santa Cruz that he grew up in, Dax became fascinated with moving images, technology and sound design early in life. He got his first computer—an Apple IIc —at the age of eight and was programming before he reached junior high.
Introduced to the house music scene on a lone trip to Europe, Dax attended his first party in Amsterdam in the early ‘90s when he was 18-years-old. Upon his return, he immersed himself in the local scene frequenting such legendary events as Wicked, Full Moon, Friends & Family, and Sweatbox.
In the years that followed, Dax worked prolifically on computers, video, and sound while concurrently working with and founding numerous technology companies including Muzic.com (a music news and free mp3 download site); Xenos Studios (a motion graphics, video production and web design firm); and Dax Presents (the current production company, under which he throws the infamous Slide underground parties).
With over 250 vjing gigs under his belt, Dax is currently Video Artist in Residence for supperclub , NextAID , Raindance , and ESDJCO ; is sponsored by both NVIDIA (hardware) and ESDJCO (clothing); and is represented by Blue Collar Entertainment . He has worked with an array of artists, including Grandmaster Flash, Derrick Carter, Louie Vega, Erick Morrillo, Smashmouth, Digweed, Mark Farina, DJ Dan, Hipp-E & Halo, Rasoul, Miguel Migs, Kenny Hawkes—and the list goes on and on. Dax also regularly performs at WMC, E3, Burning Man, Stompy, Watermelon, Traindance, and of course, Slide.
Hailed as ‘innovative,’ ‘expressive,’ and ‘sublime,’ Dax’s live video mixing performances incorporate a variety of tools and methodologies, including MIDI-controlled real-time 3D graphics. Simulating flight at Jet Set in San Francisco, Dax used multiple screens to replicate views from within an airplane, elevating partygoers—who “felt like the whole room was moving”.
Dax stays on the cutting edge using an extensive collection of analog and digital video equipment with the latest hardware and software to perform, produce, sample, and remix. You can find Dax on the web at http://www.visualsbydax.com , or contact him via email at [email protected].
